Aviation Ordnanceman Third Class Alan Mockus entered the U.S. Navy November 18, 1965, and served honorably until his discharge October 10, 1969. Petty Officer Mockus was attached to Fighter Squadron 114 embarked on the USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) serving in Vietnam. His military awards include the Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Presidential Unit Citation, and National Defense Service Medal.
Alan and his wife were Patriot Guard Riders and participated in numerous missions. Unfortunately, they were involved in a tragic motorcycle accident at the Vietnam Veterans Homecoming Ceremony at the Charlotte Motor Speedway early 2012. Alan lost his life in the accident and his wife was seriously injured and was hospitalized for quite some time. Alan was given funeral services in his home state of Connecticut. His wife has requested the Patriot Guard Riders stand in honor and respect for Alan during his inurnment service at the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA. It will be our honor to fulfill her request and stand for him.
