Alan served in the US Army from 6 May 1969 to 13 December 1971. He served as an 11B Light Weapons Infantryman and was Honorably Discharged at the rank of Specialist (E4) He earned the National Defense Service Medal\, the Vietnam Service Medal w/1 bronze service star\, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
