ABOUT THE MISSION:
John William O’Keefe was a United States Navy veteran. He proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1952 to 1956. While assigned to active duty John William O’Keefe was on board the USS Brinkley Bass (DD-887). He was a Mess Cook and had the rank of Petty Officer Third Class (CS3). John William O’Keefe was released from active duty and honorably discharged in July 1956. One year later he entered Naval Reserve in July 1957. He retired 24 years 11 months and 24 days later as Senior Chief Mess Specialist. While in the service of his country John William O’Keefe earned the National Defense Service Medal.
