ABOUT THE MISSION:

U. S. Navy Veteran Interior Communications Electrician Petty Officer Third Class (IC3) Jackie Carlyle Kelehear Sr served honorably for 4 years from 22 July 1949 – 6 August 1953 during the Korean War.   IC3 Kelehear served proudly on the USS Prairie – Destroyer Tender and the USS Bushnell – Submarine Tender during his service in the Navy.  He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. After serving in the Navy, Mr. Kelehear returned to Columbia, SC to attend USC to major in Electrical Engineering. He worked for the USPS and was active in Shriners and was a lifetime member of the Masons. Upon retirement from the USPS in 1989, he and his lovely bride, moved to Islandton, SC to live a simple, full life on the farm. He loved making wine to give away as gifts to family and friends and everyone who met him was immediately his friend.

Special Instructions:

After the briefing, we will prepare to conduct an escort from the funeral home to Rice Patch Christian Church for the 11:00 AM service. We will maintain all COVID-19 recautions at the funeral home to include wearing face coverings and maintaining social distancing. This will be a 17-mile escort to the church; LEO TBD. If you fly big flags, please check your flag mounts and ensure they are secure. You must attend the briefing to ride in the escort.

    Special Instructions:
Those not participating in the escort, meet at the church for the briefing.  After the briefing is complete, we will establish a flag line for the arrival of the procession and maintain until the beginning of the 11:00 AM service. Once the service begins, we will quietly stand down the flag line and move to the cemetery located behind the church to reestablish the flag line for military honors and graveside interment.

COVID-19: For PGR missions during the coronavirus pandemic we will abide by all rules and regulations set by the CDC and the State of South Carolina Department of Veterans’ Affairs. Each attendee is responsible for bringing a personal face-covering. It does not have to be an actual mask; any suitable face covering will be sufficient. In keeping with the requirements of the State of South Carolina Department of Veterans’ Affairs, PGR members will maintain at least a six-foot distance between each other during the briefing and flag line. We will observe any requirements of the family, and we will maintain a minimum separation of 10 feet from family and guests.
