In Honor of Berkeley County Sheriff’s Deputy, Deputy Dawn Tillman

The Terrible words drifted into my head,

Officer Down! Dawn Tillman was dead.

Then Silence, Then Silence

At the Church we gathered in the mid day Sun,

Engines rumbled, muted voices, people crying as one.

Then Silence, Then Silence…

The Star Spangled Banner sang from a field far apart,

We snapped to Attention, our hands on our Hearts.

Then Silence, Then Silence…

A Hawk cried from above, it seemed like God’s call,

A Whippoorwill’s song began at Nightfall.

Then Silence, Then Silence…

From afar Lightning flashed across the Darkened sky,

Then Thunder soon echoed the Lightning’s bright cry.

Then Silence, Then Silence…

We Gathered once more to Bury Our Slain,

We Laughed of Good Memories, and Cried once again.

Then Silence, Then Silence…

The Honor Guards’ boots thumped as they Marched around,

Twenty-One Rifle Shots in the air did Resound.

Then Silence, Then Silence…

The White Dove’s Wings beat as he took to the Air,

He Soared up to Heaven, to meet Dawn Tillman there.

Then Silence, Then Silence…

Sixteen Motorcycles Thundered into life as if One,

Then They Rumbled away, into the Setting Sun.

Then Silence, Then Silence…

I cannot express how terrible I feel about the loss of another law enforcement officer in our community this year. We have suffered greatly this year in this regard. However, I know my grief is insignificant compared to that of the family and friends of this local HERO! My prayers are that Gods grace and peace will find each and every one of them and comfort them in this difficult time. Deputy Tillman, your service to this community will never be forgotten and it will be an honor to stand for you and your loved ones. The sacrifice you and your family have made is the ultimate service a people can make for one another and I am forever indebted to you all. Gods speed!
