*** Final Staging instructions- George Bearfield, Malden, WV, 15 October 2008 ***

Staging time & location: 0830, Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden WV
Mission Brief: 0845
Flag line in place: 0900

The funeral home is 4.8 miles east of the Capitol/Greenbrier Street exit of I 64/77 (exit 99). If coming from Charleston, take Route 60 east to the Malden-Rand exit, once you exit go to the stop sign, turn left and travel about 200 yards, turn right on Commerce Dr, and the funeral home is one block away. If coming from the East, get off at the Malden exit, turn left towards Malden, and the rest of the directions are the same. Commerce Dr is opposite the Fas-Check market. We will be parking in the Baptist Church parking lot, just to the right of the funeral home
For this mission, we are standing up a flag line for the funeral service only; no visitation, no escort.  After the service starts at 1000, those needing to leave may do so. The rest of us will take a break, then re-form the flag line at the conclusion of the service. The funeral director informed me it will not be a long service. We will maintain the flag line until the procession departs, then our mission is over.
Anyone who can spare an hour or two Wednesday morning to honor this veteran, is encouraged to do so. This will be a relatively short mission, and an ideal opportunity for you to bring along a "guest". It's a great way to introduce someone to what the PGR is all about. Please remember to bring your US 3x5 flags, and a spare if you have one.

Buddy Palla
Ride Captain

The Patriot Guard Riders
have been invited to stand in Honor and Respect for George Bearfield, WV PGR member and past Ride Captain, who passed away today, 12 October, in Charleston, WV.

Services will be held at the Stevens and Grass Funeral Home, 4203 Salines Dr., Malden, WV  25306 (http://tinyurl.com/5ys56o) on Wednesday, 15 October, at 1000.  Graveside services will not be conducted until 1600 at the North Fork Cemetery, Riverton, WV.  Due to the great distance, PGR escort will most likely NOT occur.

WV ASC-South Buddy Palla is the designated Ride Captain for this Mission of Honor.

Please watch this thread for staging times and location.
Respects,

I just want to thank everyone ahead of time that does come to this memorial service. I am his oldest son. He was and still is my best friend. He had a passion for riding and an ever larger passion for showing his patriotism. I think it was the 2007 ride to the wall when he got to take a gold star mother through. He said that was one of his proudest moments. Thanks again to everything you guys do, and as soon as I get my bike, I am going to start riding with you.

God Bless

As provided by his son, Sgt Fred Bearfield of the WV Army National Guard, George was a TSgt in the West Virginia Air National Guard as a loadmaster on C-130's out of Yeager Airport in Charleston during the 1970's.  He then served and retired from the Kanawha County (WV) Sheriff's Department, Investigator for the WV Human Rights Commission, Member of Salina Masonic Lodge as a 32nd degree Mason in Malden, WV as well as a member of Beni Kedem Shrine Temple Oriental Band in Charleston. Member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Member of PGR. Never missed a ride to the Wall except for this year due to battling cancer. Wednesday evening when I spoke with him in the hospital, he was upset that he couldn't go to Clay County for that current ride, but he said that as soon as he got out, he was going Saturday to South Charleston to buy a new Harley that he picked out, a cherry red Ultra Classic.  Thursday morning he had a massive brain hemorrhage and never woke up.

Thank you, George, for your service to our Country, your community and to the Patriot Guard Riders as both a Ride Captain and general member.  May God grant you safe passage as you approach the Gates of Heaven.

May your family, friends and community find a measure of comfort in God's healing and mercy and may they come to realize that you continue to watch over each of them from your place among the Angels.

Stand at ease George.  Your tour of duty on this earth is now complete.  Thank you and God Speed.
Respects,
Joe
