It is with sadness that I post another one of "America's Greatest Generation" has passed into History.
 
William Edward Bubba Hickey, Sr., 94, of Florence, died Wednesday, 08OCT08. Mr. Hickey was born in Florence, graduated from McClenaghan High School and had attended Clemson, where he was a Company Commander.
 
He served in the US Army during World War II, was involved in several invasions, D-Day included, and was discharged as a Captain.
 
Mr. Hickey retired from Southern Coastline Railroad after over 39 years of faithful service.
 
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, October 12, 2008 in the St. John's Episcopal Church.
 
Burial will be held Monday morning at 10:00 AM in the Florence National Cemetery with military honors.
  
Staging will probably be at the Florence National Cemetery at 0900 (9:00 am)

Words cannot fully express the gratitude this Nation has for men like Capt. Hickey.  While I am sure there is much sorrow in his passing, you can take comfort in the knowledge he is reuniting with many of his friends in Heaven.

CAPT. HICKEY

WE HAD A GOOD SHORT NOTICE MISSION FOR CAPT. HICKEY.WE DISPLAYED ABOUT 15 FLAGS AND WAS WELL EXCEPTED BY THE FAMILY FOR SHOWING OUR RESPECT TO SUCH AN HONORABLE WW11 HERO AS CAPT. HICKEY.CAPT. HICKEY HAD A LOT HISTORY THAT HE CARRIED WITH HIM ABOUT D DAY THAT WE WILL NEVER KNOW ABOUT .ONE STORY HE TOLD A COWORKER BOBBY MELTON THAT HE WAS SO COLD THAT DAY THAT HE PROMISED HIMSELF THAT WHEN HE CAME HOME HE WOULD NEVER BE THAT COLD AGAIN.
   THANK YOU CAPT. HICKEY FOR YOUR SACRIFICE TO FREEDOM AND YOUR DEPARTURE WILL BE RECOGNIZED AS ANOTHER STEP THIS COUNTRY HAS PAID FOR FREEDOM .
