Mission to Stand for ALL Texas KIA's and their Families
Gold Star Mothers Ceremony
at Houston National Cemetery
Sunday 28 Sept 08

The PGR has been invited by the Gold Star Mothers Association, and Houston National Cemetery and the Military Order of the Purple Hearts.  Even in the middle of the recovery from IKE they are all asking it we will be there.  The core reason that PGR was form was to assist the Families of KIA's.  This is what we hold most dear to our hearts.

On 9/28/08 these organization will come together to support each other and honor THEIR Hero's.   The "Texas Fallen Hero's Mural" will be displayed. This contains the color portrait and name is laser etched into granite tiles of every Texas soldier that  given the ultimate sacrifice in the war since 9/11. This Mural was commissioned by the Military Order of the Purple Hearts chapter in Katy.

The Mural will be displayed in every Texas town that has sacrificed a Fallen Hero since 9/11.  Once the journey is complete, the Mural will be permanently placed at the rotunda of the State Capital.

Duration of the Ceremony will be about one hour.  After which we can get a close up look at the Mural and visit with the attendees, many of which we have stood for their soldier on past missions.

This is about the KIA's of Texas and their families. This is the core reason that the PGR was formed and continues to do what we do.  I look forward to see you there.

30 Sep 2008 7:43 AM Alert
I had posted the mission staging to start at 1130 hrs. I arrived at 1030 to recon the staging site and the parking at HNC. There was already 10 people at staging more than an hour a head of time. I am not sure how many finally showed up but I was expecting a low turn out because of Hurricane IKE. I was one of the biggest we have had in a while.

There was a much higher attendance this year of the KIA families. The actual ceremony started with the same flare (or lack of it) as previous GSM Ceremonies. This is because the politicians spoke first but did they not talk long (surprising). Just after the last politico spoke, a close friend and Brigadier General slipped in the back with his staff. I had only mentioned to two people that he might be coming. Since he was there to support the Gold Star Mothers I did not fell it right to run up and inform the HNC staff or ceremony coordinator. I did tell Maria Rosales (a Gold Star Mom) that meet him in April. One of the events of the ceremony was to call each KIA's name if a family member was present. Then the mother or spouse would be escorted up to the front to receive a yellow rose and then to view the Texas Fallen Hero's Mural to find their hero's picture. When I told Maria that the General was there, She asked he we would escort her. When I went to ask him, it had to be the hardest sentence I have ever spoken. He jumped at the chance. He was in his ACU's and was a striking scene as he escorted Maria. This part of the ceremony was very difficult for all.

The Texas Fallen Hero's Mural was a tremendous hit with all. I am unable to understand how they laser etch the granite tiles to have a color picture of each hero. This Mural is sponsored by the Katy, Tx chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

It was a hard day but a good one.
