St. Mary soldier dies of injuries from Iraq explosion

MORGAN CITY, La. (AP) -- A soldier from south Louisiana has died of injuries he suffered last month in the explosion of a roadside bomb in Iraq, the Defense Department says.

Army Spc. Brandon L. Teeters, 21, died on Friday in Ludwigshafen, Germany. He had suffered burns over 85 percent of his body in the April 20 explosion, which happened near his Bradley Fighting Vehicle during combat operations in Baghdad.

The Defense Department listed Teeters' Louisiana residence as Lafayette, however, he attended Centerville High School and his family is in St. Mary Parish. Funeral services are to take place in Morgan City.

Teeters was assigned to the 8th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, Fort Hood, Texas.

I got the following info off of the local tv stations website the first is Katc.com and the second is KLFY.com

KATC.com
Funeral arrangements are being made for a Saint Mary parish soldier who died from injuries suffered in a roadside bombing in Iraq.

21-year-old army specialist Brandon Teeters of Centerville was badly burned in the April 20th explosion and had been clinging to life in a military hospital in Germany.

He passed away Friday. His funeral will be held in Morgan City.

KLFY.com

An Acadiana soldier has died as a result of injuries he sustained last month in Iraq.

Army Specialist Brandon Teeters suffered burns over 85% of his body when an improvised explosive device went off near his Bradley fighting vehicle in Baghdad.

The defense department lists the 21-year-old's residence as Lafayette, but Teeter graduated from Centerville High School and his family lives in St. Mary Parish.

Funeral arrangements are still pending.

Does anyone know what funeral home is handling the arrangements?  I am trying to find out the day and route that the funeral home will be bringing Spc Teeters home.  I would like to organize a welcome home route along the way.

Thanks,

Kim -- I'm putting this info here because I'm suddenly overwhelmed at work with phone calls and can't seem to get a minute to call you back.

The Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City will be handling the arrangements. Spc. Teeters will be arriving in Baton Rouge tomorrow. (I know someone said something about a welcome home, I don't have info on "when" tommorrow, he wasn't sure.) The guy at the funeral home says when they receive Spc. Teeters they'll know more about the specifics of the arrangements and will post it in the Morgan City Daily Review which is online at http://www.daily-review.com/ for anyone that wants to check there.

I don't know how you guys go about arranging this with the family. The funeral home number is 985-384-7630 if you need to talk to them.

What else can I do?

Cindy -
Thanks for the number.  I'm talking to the Funeral Home director and he's trying to get me in touch with the Casualty Assistance Officer.  Still have no specifics but assume he'll be coming home no sooner than Thurs evening.  I'll keep ya'll posted as I find out.  We've not yet had any contact with the family so we don't know if they will want us there or not.  Will let ya'll know.
