I just talked to the daughter of this Vet., Kim Wendling..
Very nice person. Says her father was a real Patriot.

Kim says that both she and her husband ride and want us to participate
in this.

This is going to be a service on Davis Monthan AFB at the
Chapel , They are planning on Thurs, hopefully about mid morning. Then
the Hearse and family will drive to Sierra Vista and the interment will
be at the National Cemetery that day.

She says she will have more details as to times on Monday evening.

I am passing this on to all of you, as I am out of town beginning Tues
AM.

This is the original email I recieved from James Ehler's niece, a fellow PGR member.

LouAnn & Pat ~

Greetings from the FROZEN TUNDRA... LITERALLY !!!! (Kenosha WI, just south of Milwaukee and due north of the Illinois border on Lake Michigan)

My Uncle James Ehler Sr, retired from Davis Monthan AFB in Tucson many years ago. He served in Korea, Thailand & Vietnam.

This afternoon the Good Lord welcomed him into the family of heaven after a battle with cancer.

My Uncle Jimmy is married to Florence, my father's older sister. They have four grown children, Lynn, Kim, Jim & Tim. I called and spoke with my Aunt Florence and my cousin, Kim (Ehler) Wendling. Kim and her husband, Steve would be your contact persons:

Kim Wendling (cell #'s deleteted) Steve Wendling

They would like to invite the Patriot Guard to HONOR my Uncle.

It appears that there will be a service at the chapel on Base with burial at the National Cemetery near Sierra Vista. Possibly Thursday of this week.

I am the caregiver/driver for an elderly couple in their 80's here in Kenosha and will not be able to attend my Uncle Jimmy's funeral. I am asking the Tucson area Patriot Guard if they will be able to represent me for the funeral of my very special Uncle (and HUGE Green Bay Packer fan !!!!!!!!!).

Deepest Respects,

Godspeed, MSgt Ehler. You've got your orders, PCS (permanant change of station) to Heaven. The father has requested your presence. Your family and friends will miss you terribly, but being an old war dog, that isn't anything new. I know that you will be standing right beside them whenever they need that little bit of extra strength. I've had the privilage of talking with your niece Denise here in Wisconsin. She's told me about your spirit, how proud you were to have served your country. You've done your duty, above and beyond the call, and have touched more lives than you could ever realize. To Denise, and all the other friends and family who are mourning your passing, I will take a knee and pray that Our Father's Love will wash over you and give you strength to make it through these next few seemingly impossible days.

From an old Phantom Phixer.

Because It's The Right Thing To Do.

Nothing Worthwhile is ever Easy. And Nothing Easy is Ever Worthwhile.

For all his bluster, it is the sad problem of man that he cannot choose his triumph,
He can only choose how he will stand when the call of destiny comes,
Hoping that he’ll have the courage to answer.

Final Inspection

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now,soldier.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime.
When the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord.
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now,soldier
you’ve borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets;
you’ve done your time in Hell."
