Final Itinerary
Crazy Bob and I did a walk through with all of the guys from the Army and the LEO’x this morning for both the funeral service at The Arvada Center, and the burial service at crown Hill Cemetery.
Staging for the funeral service:
The Arvada Center 6901 Wadsworth Blvd Arvada, CO
Stage - No Later Than 0715 (7:15 am) Mission Brief - 0730 (7:30 am) Set up flag line - as soon as meeting is over.
The Arvada Center, which is about 17 blocks north of I-70 on Wadsworth Blvd, which is west of I-25. As you go north on Wadsworth, the easiest way to enter would be to turn left (west) on 68th Ave, then take the first possible right into The Arvada Center. We are using parking lot ‘G‘, which will be the first lot on your left. I will be there by about 0630 (6:30 am), so look for me or my bike. We will leave after the service has started as a group and head to Crown Hill Cemetery. We will not be part of the procession.
Staging for the burial service:
Crown Hill Cemetery 8500 W. 29th Ave Wheat Ridge, CO
Stage - 1045 (10:45 am) Mission Brief - 1100 (11:00 am) Set up flag line - as soon as the meeting is over
The entrance to Crown Hill Cemetery is at Wadsworth Blvd and 29th Ave. 29th Ave is about 13 blocks south of I-70. As you turn west into the Cemetery on 29th Ave, you will see a tower straight ahead of you quite a ways down. Go straight at the tower until you come to the PGR flag, and turn left to our staging area. We will be quite a ways from the service, which is at the tower, but the Cemetery is providing us with a golf cart to use for any that need help.
As soon as the service is over we will leave immediately for Ft Logan for the next mission.

| ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Patriot Guard Riders have been askedto stand for a fallen American Hero here in Colorado.
Brigadier General Felix L. Sparks (ret) AAG COARNG passed away early this morning. He is the greatest representative of "the greatest generation" and a Soldier's Soldier. BG Sparks led his troops on 4 beach landings and even went AWOL from a field hospital after getting patched up from shrapnel wounds to get back to his unit fighting to the death in the hills around Anzio. He later liberated the Dachau Concentration Camp as a Lt. Colonel of an infantry regiment at the age of 26. This man lived through 511 days of combat, serving in Patton's army. He used his leadership with great skill again for the state of Colorado in the 60's and 70's as an attorney, supreme court judge, Ground Commander for the Colorado Army Guard and as an official on the Water Board. To the end, Felix Sparks was a damn fine warrior.

Services for BG Felix L. Sparks will be held at The Arvada Center in Arvada, CO, and will be followed by burial with full military honors at Crown Hill Cemetery in Lakewood, CO. They are expecting a very large group of people to attend these services. including lots of military and government officials, and have asked the PGR for a MAXIMUM turnout.
Staging for Burial Service:
The Arvada Center
6901 Wadsworth Blvd
Arvada, CO
Staging - 0715 (7:15 am)
Mission Brief - 0730 (7:30 am)
Set up flag line - 0745 (7:45 am)
After the service starts, which is scheduled at about 0925 (9:25 am), we will break down the flag line and move over the Cemetery to set up flag line for the burial service.
Staging for the burial service:
Crown Hill Cemetery
8500 W 29th Ave
Lakewood, CO.
Staging - 1030 (10:30 am)
Mission Brief - 1100 (11:00 am)
Set up flag line - 1110 (11:10 am)
I will be the Ride Captain for both parts of this mission. Again, I would like to stress that they are expecting a lrge turnout of dignitaries and have asked for the Patriot Guard Riders to please have a MAXIMUM turnout. If you can make both or any part of this mission please make plans do do so. Brad 'CHARGER' Lewellen Colorado State Captain Patriot Guard Riders charger@patriotguard.org

I have a meeting on Monday morning, 01 Oct 07 with all involved at The Arvada Center to get final details. Please watch this thread Monday night for any possible changes.
Directions for out-of towners.
The Arvada Center is at 6901 Wadsworth Blvd, which is on the west side of Wadsworth and about 17 blocks north of I-70, and west of I-25.
Crown Hill Cemetery is at 8500 W. 29th Ave. This address is misleading, because it is actually right in the middle of the cemetery. The main entrance to Crown Hill Cemetery is on Wadsworth at 29th Ave, and then you go west into the Cemetery. 29th Ave is south of I-70 about 22 blocks.
In both parts of this mission, we will be staging well before the services start, so I am fairly confident our staging times and areas will work out, but like I said above, watch for changes on Monday night.
Also, I am looking for a volunteer to brings the flags to and from this mission. If you are available, please e-mail me asap at charger@patriotguard.org

Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Brig Gen. Felix L. Sparks. May God help you though this difficult time and sorrow. He is one of America's Heroes that will never be forgotten.
Rest Safely and Securely in God's Loving Arms, Felix. Going home, going home, I'm just going home. Quiet-like, slip away- I'll be going home. It's not far, just close by; Jesus is the Door; Work all done, laid aside, Fear and grief no more. Friends are there, waiting now. He is waiting, too. See His smile! See His hand! He will lead me through.
Morning Star lights the way; Restless dream all done; Shadows gone, break of day, Life has just begun. Every tear wiped away, Pain and sickness gone; Wide awake there with Him! Peace goes on and on! Going home, going home, I'll be going home. See the Light! See the Sun! I'm just going home.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. My most sincere condolences to the family and friends of BG Felix L. Sparks. His dedication to duty and to this country can never be repaid. I will be there to celebrate his life, not his passing. He is not gone from us, just from our sight:
Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there... I do not sleep. I am the thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autum rain. When you wake to mornings hush, I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circling flight. I am the soft star-shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry... I am not there, I did not die.
Unknown
I thank the General for all he did for this country and thus for me. I will stand the line for The General and do my part to honor him. How do you thank a man for a life like his? You stand guard over his family and honor them in his absence...even though he is NOT gone from us...just TDY.

God rest your soul, General Sparks. You were a very important man in my father's life. My father served in the Army during WWII and in April 1945, his division assisted in the liberation of Dachau. He forever was moved by this experience and the leadership of General Sparks. A couple of years ago I visited the Museum of the 45th Division. There is a video interview of General Felix Sparks of that event that would move even the toughest heart. My honor, respect, and undying gratitude goes out to your memory and your unfailing service to this country. Thank you, Sir. I salute you. By the way, the pic next to this post is the stained glass window in the Chapel at the 45th Museum in Oklahoma City. http://www.45thdivision.org
