1. Situation. On 18 April 2006, an American hero, CPT Ian P. Weikel, U. S. Army, of Colorado gave the ultimate sacrifice while conducting combat operations in Balad, Iraq when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV. The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to escort CPT Ian P. Weikel’s remains from Dover, AFB to the funeral home in Arlington, Virginia, provide a corridor of U. S. Flags at the funeral home during viewing times and to escort CPT Ian P. Weikel’s remains from the funeral home to his final resting place in Arlington National Cemetery.
