updated 28 Aug 07 1947cdt Aranel

MAIN STAGING DETAILS:

8:00 – 8:30 AM
Main staging will be in the parking lot of Heron Lake Community Center located at the corner of 10th street and 3rd Avenue in Heron Lake. 10th street is also known as Main Street and also as County Road 9 where it intersects with MN Hwy 60 at Heron Lake.

8:30-8:40 AM Mission Briefing

8:45 AM (est) Hearse arrives at church. We will ride from staging area to church to make formation for escort. Bikes will remain parked in front of hearse during visitation and the funeral Mass.

9:00 AM (est)
Form flag line as Billy Martin’s casket is carried into the church. Right hand over heart, Veterans salute. We will then form our visitation flag line prior to arrival of family.

9:10 AM (est) Family arrives for visitation.

9:30 AM Visitation begins

10:30 AM Funeral Mass begins

11:15 – 11:30 AM (est) Funeral ends, lead funeral procession approximately 2

miles on County Road 9 to Sacred Heart Cemetery.

11:45 AM (est) Form flag line during internment.

12:15 PM (est) Dismissed when family departs cemetery.

For this mission, if you have 2 flags please bring them. We will remain parked in front of the hearse for the visitation and Mass funeral service in preparation for the cemetery escort. It would be nice to have flags on the bikes while they are parked as well as on our flag line. Escort speed to the cemetery will be less than 30 MPH so flags can remain unfurled for escort.

Please remember to bring your own water, a 3x5 foot flag and pole, sun screen, and dress according to the weather forecast. We must be self-sufficient. Current forecast for Saturday in Heron Lake is partly cloudy with a high in the mid-80’s, but this is Minnesota and the weather is always subject to change!

Please cover any patches that I would have to explain to my Grandmother, Mother or Children – Thank You !!

Below is a link which will bring you to a map of Heron Lake where you can locate the staging area at 10th street and 3rd Avenue:

CONFIRMED MISSION - Vietnam Veteran Billy Martin - Heron Lake, MN  01 SEPT 2007

The family of Vietnam Veteran Billy Martin has requested the presence of the Patriot Guard at his funeral on Saturday - 01 SEPT 2007.

Staging details will be posted shortly.

Ride Captain for this mission will be Paul Ramsbey.

Below is a letter from Billy Martin's wife, Janet, requesting our presence and providing some background information on Billy and herself:

I would like to request the PGR, if available in Minnesota, for my husband PR1 Billy Martin for Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007. The town is Heron Lake, it's in the southwest part of the state near Worthington and Windom. The place would be from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Viewing at 0930, Mass at 1030, internment to follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery (County Road 9, just outside of town) immediately after mass.

Billy is a two tour Vietnam Vet (1968, 1969)who was never welcomed home properly. I had a mass for him in Jacksonville, FL and the PGR there did a wonderful job. My immediate family was unable to attend due to another family member being ill.

Billy was in a Seabee's with MCB1 and MCB22 stationed in DaNang, and other places I don't remember. He was a security guard for prisoners on Antoi Island. After his first tour he got out and took a 6 year break and came back in to the Aviation Navy. He and I met in "PR A" school. He retired in 1993 and followed me until I retired in 1999 here in Jacksonville, FL.

In 1996, he started his battle on the home front with cancer. It started out as vocal cord cancer and by 2003 ended up and laryngeal cancer linked to the herbicide agent orange from Vietnam. He bravely fought for over 5 years, never complaining and never losing his sense of humor. He Lived strong" just like Lance Armstrong's motto says. He played golf whenever he could, we traveled, even taking a cruise to Alaska for our 25th wedding anniversary in May 2005.

Before he is finally laid to rest, near my father, a Korean veteran, I would like him honored one more time, in the presence of my family and nieces and nephew so they can appreciate the man he was.

Thank you for your consideration.

Janet Martin

Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Billy Martin, Viet Nam Veteran. May God help you though this difficult time and sorrow. He is one of America's Heroes that will never be forgotten.

Rest Safely and Securely in God's Loving Arms, Billy.

Going home, going home,
I'm just going home.
Quiet-like, slip away-
I'll be going home.
It's not far, just close by;
Jesus is the Door;
Work all done, laid aside,
Fear and grief no more.
Friends are there, waiting now.
He is waiting, too.
See His smile! See His hand!
He will lead me through.

Morning Star lights the way;
Restless dream all done;
Shadows gone, break of day,
Life has just begun.
Every tear wiped away,
Pain and sickness gone;
Wide awake there with Him!
Peace goes on and on!
Going home, going home,
I'll be going home.
See the Light! See the Sun!
I'm just going home.

A Soldier's Prayer
(author unknown)

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.
