Short Notice - SPC David J. Lawson, 21, FSNC - Minneapolis, MN, 30 MAY 07

SPC David James Lawson, age 21 of Hudson, active duty Army National Guard member, died suddenly Tuesday, May 22 at Brooke Army Medical Center in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Visitation will take place from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 29 at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson, 520 S. 11th St. Funeral Services will take place at noon, Wednesday, May 30 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1205 Sixth St., Hudson. Interment with full military honors will take place at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Mpls, Minn. Funeral Services are entrusted to the O'Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson, WI. SPC Lawson was in the process of recovering from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident and was hoping to rejoin his unit in Iraq.

A quote from the Fisher House website, where SPC Lawson was recovering:

Minnesota National Guard Spc. David Lawson, who lost his right leg above the ankle in a motorcycle accident last fall, is like a lot of troops. He wants to serve in Iraq with his buddies ‹ and might just get his wish. "If I can be there and serve, I feel like I owe it to my brothers," said Lawson, 21, of Hudson, Wis. "I got into an accident the night before (his scheduled deployment) and I feel like I skipped out on my troops."

The Patriot Guard has been invited to stand in honor of this young hero at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

We will stage at the IKEA parking lot just North of the Mall of America, near American Blvd (8000 IKEA Way, Bloomington, MN 55425).

12:45 PM - Staging area opens
1:10 PM - Pre-ride briefing
1:20 PM - Depart for Fort Snelling National Cemetery
1:25 PM -  Arrive at FSNC, set flag lines
1:45 PM - Service begins
2:30 PM (EST) - Dismissed

Ride Captain in charge will be Indian John.

Going home, going home,
I'm just going home.
Quiet-like, slip away-
I'll be going home.
It's not far, just close by;
Jesus is the Door;
Work all done, laid aside,
Fear and grief no more.
Friends are there, waiting now.
He is waiting, too.
See His smile! See His hand!
He will lead me through.
