SGT Schumann will be interred at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Friday, 1 June.
We will stage at the IKEA parking lot just North of the Mall of America, near American Blvd (8000 IKEA Way, Bloomington, MN 55425).

11:30 AM - Staging area opens
12:00 PM - Pre-ride briefing
12:15 PM - Depart for Fort Snelling National Cemetery
12:20 PM -  Arrive at FSNC, set flag lines
12:30 - 1:00 PM - Service begins (This may vary depending on the arrival time of the procession from Hawley)
1:45 PM (EST) - Dismissed


Current weather forecast is a 40% chance of scattered storms with temps in the mid 70s, please dress accordingly. As always please remember to bring your US Flag and anything you may need to be self-sufficient for the mission.

Honor Mission for SGT Jason Alan Schumann, Hawley, MN

PLEASE NOTE THERE HAS BEEN AN HOUR CHANGE (EARLIER) FOR THIS MISSION AS SGT SCHUMANN

IS ARRIVING AT NOON NOW RATHER THAN 1:00PM AS ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED

 

Honor Escort Mission, Tuesday May 29, 2007:

____7:30am___ Staging at Detroit Lakes, MN Walmart parking lot.

____8:00am___ Sign Waivers and Briefing.

____8:15am___ Kickstands up and rolling to Moorhead, MN.

____9:00am___ Staging at Moorhead VFW (intersection of Hwy 10 and Hwy 75)

____9:45am___ Sign Waivers and Briefing.

___10:00am___ Kickstands up for ride up Hwy 75 and over to Fargo Jet.

___10:20am___ Staging at Fargo Jet Center (FJC).  We have permission to park on FJC entrance road making sure that we do not block both lanes.  U turn at T then BEGIN ANGLE parking alternating on both sides of road.  Any riders who proceed to FJC before VFW Staged cycles arrive, please alternate park evenly on both sides of road.   Park so that you are exiting the site.  Do not block both lanes.  Everyone must sign PGR Liability Release forms before starting Escort Mission.  Remember to gas up and chow down before staging.  There are no facilities for food.   We can use FJC restroom facilities.

___10:45am___ Sign Waivers and Briefing.

___11:00am___ Honor Flag Line at entrance to Fargo Jet Center , along 20 th St. N (if sufficient Patriot Guards on hand) and in Hanger.  After Family has entered Fargo Jet Center , all Flag Bearers can prepare for departure except those in Hanger.  Flag line in Hanger will depart as soon as Family leaves.  Break down your flags and be ready to roll ASAP.

____1:00pm___ Anticipated departure time. 

 

We will be traveling at 45-50 mph or below in staggered formation to Hawley.  If this is beyond your riding skills or comfort level, please follow behind the group on your own, cage it, or pass on this Mission.  Please watch for weather forecast for proper gear.

Directions to Fargo Jet Center:

From Interstate 29: 

Take 1 st exit (Co Rd 20) North of Hector International Airport exit.  Go East approximately 3.5 miles on Co. Rd. 20 to FJC entrance at 20 th St. N. 

From the East: 

Coming from the North on Hwy 75 look for “Airport Terminal” and Co Rd 22 signs.  Go West (right turn) on Co Rd 22 (which turns into ND Co Rd 20) approximately 3.5 miles to FJC, turn right (south) on 20 th St. N.

Coming from the South off Hwy 10, go North on Hwy 75 approximately 4.25 miles to Co Rd 22.  Look for “Airport Terminal” and Co Rd 22 signs.  Go West (left turn) on Co Rd 22 approximately 3.75 miles (turns into ND Co Rd 20) to FJC entrance at 20 th St. N. 

From Fargo:  Use University Ave N to Co Rd 22, turn left and left again at first road

(20 th St. N.) entrance to FJC

Honor Escort Mission to Hawley:

The route from the airport to Hawley is predetermined by LEO. 

Clay County Sheriff’s LEO /Minnesota Highway Patrol vehicles will lead the procession.  PGR will fall in behind the lead LEO vehicle.  Cages will be parked on the East side of drive ahead of the motorcycles.  Only those Cagers who are proceeding to Hawley should be parked here.  The Tailgater LEO vehicle will stop abreast of the lead Cage vehicle and all Cages will then depart, following the friends and relatives of SGT Jason Schumann.  If you are not proceeding to Hawley as part of the Escort Mission, please park on the West side of 20 th St. N and depart on your own after Funeral Procession has departed.   Cagers do not have to enter Hawley with the Funeral Procession, please stay on Hwy 10 and make a left turn after going under the railroad bridge.  To the right is Riverside Inn.  This is where the Motorcycle Escort will come back to after Escorting SGT Jason Schumann to Vigen Funeral Home. The Escort Mission in Hawley will make a right turn at the Vigen Funeral home and proceed to the next intersection and turn right again.  We will continue on this street until we come back to 6 th St.  We will make a left turn here and proceed under the railroad bridge to the next paved intersection where we will turn left and begin Angle parking along the street.  The Honor Escort Mission ends here.  The Riverside Inn has a Beer Garden in back for after refreshments.

There will be no Flag Lines set up in Hawle

___2:30pm___ Staging at SuperValu Grocery Store parking lot on Hwy 10, West side of Hawley, MN North side of HWY 10.
 
___3:10pm___  Mission briefing and Waiver Signing.
 
___3:20pm___  Kickstands up for short ride to Hawley Lutheran Church and to Vigen Funeral Home.
 
___3:30pm___  Honor Flag Line set at Hawley Lutheran Church.
 
___3:30pm___  Honor Escort from Vigen Funeral Home to Hawley Lutheran Church.  Join Honor Flag Line.
 
___400pm___  Visitation Service begins for SGT Jason Schumann.
 
6 to 10 Riders will go to Vigen Funeral Home for Honor Escort to Hawley Lutheran Church, all others will form an Honor Flag Line at Hawley Lutheran Church.
 
This Visitation Mission ride will be on Hawley city streets.  Any Rider who feels uncomfortable riding in a group may follow the procession to Hawley Lutheran Church and join the Honor Flag Line there.  Please be prepared for any weather conditions on this day and be self supporting.  Cager's will follow the Riders to the Hawley Lutheran Church and park on side streets to allow for Mourners to use the limited parking at the Church.
 
The Funeral Service for SGT Jason Schumann will be the following day, Thursday May 31st,  at 1:00pm in the Hawley High School, Hawley, MN.  This Honor Mission will be posted after the schedule is finalized.
 
SGT Jason Schumann's Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery is scheduled for Friday, June 1, 2007 at 1:00pm.  Please check this thread for additional information regarding the Interment Service.

DoD Identifies Army Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Sgt. Jason A. Schumann, 23, of Hawley, Minn., died May 19 in Ad Diwaniyah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Schumann was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 89th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Polk, La.
