I have spoken with the case manager from the Dept. of Army. He has
informed me that there will be no services in Florida. Webster, FL was
home of record only for Spc. Gilmore.

Spc. Gilmore's wife lives in the Fort Hood, Texas area and any services
will be conducted in Texas.

DoD Identifies Army Casualties

 

The Department of Defense announced today the death of six soldiers who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. They died May 19 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. They were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

 

Killed were: 

Staff Sgt. Christopher Moore, 28, of Alpaugh, Calif. 

Sgt. Jean P. Medlin, 27, of Pelham, Ala. 

Spc. David W. Behrle, 20, of Tipton, Iowa. 

Spc. Joseph A. Gilmore, 26, of Webster, Fla. 

Pfc. Travis F. Haslip, 20, of Ooltewah, Tenn. 

Pfc. Alexander R. Varela, 19, of Fernley, Nev.

Another Day... Another Battle... Another Brave Defender has shown COURAGE and CHARACTER! This HERO has given hopes, has given dreams, has given All!

Spc. Gilmore, you have given far more than I have and you have sacrificed much more than I have. In your Brave stand you have given everything that you have and that you are! I THANK YOU!! I THANK YOUR FAMILY!!

Today as the dawn turns to dusk, the bugle will sound and the cannon will fire! The flag will be lowered to honor your sacrifice!

It is a day that this nation should take a moment and weep for these fallen heros and bless these families for their loss. To the parents, family and friends of SPC Gilmore my deepest sympathy, may you find comfort in the knowledge that your soldier is a TRUE American HERO and without heros like him we as a nation are lost. Joseph, thank you young man, thank you for answering the call, thank you for serving and thank you for protecting my freedom and that of my family for without men and women like you we would a nation unprotected.
