10 May 2007 11:46 AM Alert
Updated 23 May 07  2018 edt  S Sturgis

This is the final itinerary for the services for Spc. Dan Nguyen, who gave all for you and me.  This mission is a GO all contacts have been made.  Our objective is to help provide a fitting send off for this American Hero.  This is the weekend we honor all Americans who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. Let's have a big turn out to honor the latest fallen hero from our area.

One of the family members said something to those at the escort home Thursday that was profound and I would like to share it with you.  As I was at Ft. Sam at a service when the escort home took place I will have to paraphrase what was repeated to me.  Please forgive me if I do not get it exactly right but I think we all will understand the message.

From one of Spc Nguyen family members:  Over 58,000 Americans give their life's fighting for a free South Vietnam.  Because of the United States involvement we were able to flee our country and come to American.  Dan wanted to repay some of that debt, and he made the ultimate sacrifice doing so.

We will fly a South Vietnamese flag on this mission and present it to the family after the services.

*edited per Johnny Dee*

We will set up our flag line at the church one hour before the services.  Once the services have started we will send a forward advance team with our flags to Houston National C emetery, providing we have a police escort.  Police escort has been a problem with this service as it is a holiday weekend.  If we have escort for a forward advance team, all non flag bikes will set up our flag line before the procession arrives at the cemetery.  We do have police escort for the procession.  If there is none for the forward advance team then we all will travel in the procession.   Flag bikes (bikes with large flags) will remain at the church and will be in the procession from the church as always.   Sember Gumby

Please join us as we Stand Tall & Silent honoring Spc Nguyen, his family and community. Bring a friend with you who has never attended a PGR mission, they will thank you afterward.

Thank you, Spc. Dan H. Nguyen for your service to this Nation. It is because of Patriots such as you that I, my family, and the rest of this great Nation are able to lead the lives we do. It is the soldier that gives us freedom, not the politicians. Only two people ever died for our freedoms. One was Jesus Christ and the other was the American Soldier. The least I can do is pay homage and respect to this Hero and his family.
To the family of this American Hero: We as a Nation grieve with you in the loss of one of our Nation’s best. His adherence to “Duty to God and Country” will not be forgotten. Death is a time to rejoice in the life someone had and the lives they touched on this earth. Life is but a blink of an eye. May the Great Architect take this Hero and his family into his council, protect and heal them.

You don't have to love war, but you do have to love the Warrior!

The sound of 200 people holding flags -- is deafening.
