LOCATION: Haysville, KS
Spc. James R. Burnett Jr., 21, Wichita, KS, was killed in action on 16 November 2011 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan. He died after an improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated near his unit's vehicle while they were on patrol.
He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, stationed in Fort Wainwright, Alaska. Spc. Burnett joined the Army in 2009 after he graduated from Clearwater High School in Clearwater, KS.
Memorial services were held for Spc. Burnett at Community Church of Christ in Lowndes, Missouri on Saturday, 26 November 2011.
Per the family’s request a local memorial service will be held for him on Feb 11th, at 11:00 AM at the new Haysville VFW Post 6957. This was originally on the Patriot Guard Mission Alert List, however the service was held in Missouri. The family of Spc. James Burnett and Anita Dixon of the AGSM have ask me to coordinate and RC this mission.
There will also be a dinner following the memorial service.
Staging:
Pre Staging - Meet at Wichita VFW Post 3115 at 8:00 AM - (4801 W Douglas Ave, Wichita, KS)
Ride staging will be at Central Community Church at 9:15 AM – (6100 W. Maple St.)
Flag-Line staging will be at Post 6957 at 10:00 AM – (7504 S. Broadway, Haysville, Ks.)
