PFC Aaron Nemelka, 19, West Jordan, UT, 13-14 Nov 2009

Thirteen people were killed when an Army psychiatrist opened fire on soldiers at the Fort Hood Army base, including  PFC Aaron Thomas Nemelka of West Jordan, Utah

The family spoke publicly Saturday, saying that Aaron Nemelka was “proud to serve his country in the military” and that “he had a deep sense of duty and responsibility.”   Mr. Nemelka, a 19-year-old Private First Class, trained as a combat engineer and was slated to be deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan in January.   “He was proud to follow in the footsteps of both of his grandfathers, two of his uncles, and his cousin,” said Mr. Nemelka’s father, Michael. “He felt it was his duty to stand with them in defense of our country.”

We have been requested by the family of PFC Aaron Nemelka to participate in the services to honor this fallen hero.  We will be involved in both the Dignified Transfer at the Air National Guard Base on Friday and the Funeral Services on Saturday.

We mourn with the families, fellow soldiers, Ft. Hood, Killeen, TX, and all of America for this terrible tragedy. It is unthinkable that we could lose so many here at home like this. And yet, the circumstances do not diminish the fact that these brave soldiers lost their lives because they were wearing the uniform of the United States Army, and were in a place where they were preparing to deploy or returning from deployment. We are so grateful to all our soldiers who have volunteered to protect the United States of America, and to help establish freedom around the world for those who cannot defend themselves. Their efforts are appreciated.

We will remember your soldier with honor and respect. And we will keep your families and communities in our prayers.
