*** Updated Staging information, Charleston, WV, 13 July 2009 ***
Staging location: Executive Air Terminal, Eagle Mountain Road, Charleston, WV. If you ride/drive up the mountain like you're going to the commercial side of Yeager Airport, turn right on Eagle Mountain Road, near the top of hill (just before you get to Yeager).. Follow this road past the FAA office on the right, take the next left and you will be at Executive.
Staging time: 10:00 am / brief at 10:15
Please remember to bring your 3x5 flags. We will not be escorting; we are standing up a flag line for these departing military members. As we all know, the times, and even dates, of military missions sometimes change easily, so monitor this thread for updates.

Thank you 153rd Public Affairs for your part in taking a stand on GWOT. You have a unique opportunity to tell the story through the lenses and with the pens. It will be a privilege and honor for the Patriot Guard to stand a flag line for your departure. Watch out for each other and the PGR will be waiting for to stand a flag line upon your return.

*** Mission Accomplished ***
Today was a beautiful day for a mission, with picture-perfect weather...I just wish it would have been a welcome home, instead of a send-off mission. Thanks to the PGR members who made it up to Executive Air, and a special thanks goes out to Terry, who was visiting from Florida and came to stand with us.
A small group of soldiers from the 153rd Public Affairs Detachment headed off on their deployment this morning; for most, it will be their first time in the sandbox. Major Harrell was the Commanding Officer, and it will be his third trip over...we wish them success and safety. He was the only one of their group who knew the Patriot Guard Riders would be there today...our presence was a surprise to the others, but the ones ones I spoke with knew all about the PGR.
We mingled and chatted with the troops while waiting for their aircraft to arrive, and I presented the Major with a PGR flag and book of messages from our members. He was most happy to receive both items, and told me he was going to pass around the book on the airplane, so that everyone could read it. Thanks to those who took a few minutes to post some thoughts for our soldiers, it means alot to them.
After the aircraft landed, I went to talk to the pilots, to inform them of where we would be standing as they taxied back out. The aircraft commander was very happy to see us there, and thanked us for what we do. When it came time for the troops to load up, they each came down our flag line and thanked us for being there; we, in turn, all wished them well. As the Major came by, he had a salute for everyone, but I got the "special blessing". As he came to my position (I was the last one in the line), he put out his hand for us to shake once more, then he gave me a hug and with a great deal of emotion in his voice, whispered, "Thank you so much for doing this." Then the lump started growing in my throat...those of you who have been there know what I'm talking about. I asked him to please take care of his troops, and to bring them all back.
They all got loaded up on the aircraft, it fired up it's engines, and soon taxied out of the parking spot. We had strategically positioned ourselves in a line about 100 feet long along the taxi-way, and as the aircraft passed by, we rendered and held a salute to honor the heroes inside. I don't know if anyone else could see, but the Major was seated on the right side of the aircraft, and he was saluting us in return as the plane passed by our line...I will remember that moment.
Thanks again to all who came out today...these troops deserve all the honor and respect we can give them.
