SGT Ryan Pitts was scheduled to arrive in Memphis on Novemeber 23rd, and we were going to give him a huge welcome home.
Unfortunately, SGT Pitts had to undergo further surgery yesterday, and will not be able to come to Memphis at this time.
I will update as to when he will be able to make the trip.

Wounded Warrior Welcome Home Mission
SGT.Ryan Pitts, U.S Army
On July 13, 2008 members of Chosen Company, 173d Airborne Brigade of the 2-503 Infantry were conducting operations in support of this Nations war on terror near Wanat, Afghanistan. The Taliban mounted an offensive, and during the ensuing battle, the 173d suffered 9 KIA’s and 15 wounded.
SGT.Pitts was at the OP when the battle began, and not long into the firefight, was the sole survivor at the OP. After being literally blown out of his position twice from RPG fire, SGT Pitts was able to get to a radio, and with the Taliban fighters literally within feet of him, was able to summon help from the firebase.
Four paratroopers ran from the firebase, and under intense enemy fire, were able to reach SGT Pitts position. All four of the soldiers sustained injuries, but were able to reach Ryan. The five soldiers continued to fend off the Taliban until they were able to be medevaced out of the area.
The 173d, during their deployment in Afghanistan were involved in over 9000 firefights, with one in four soldiers wounded. The number of awards given to, or in the nomination process include two Medal of Honor, several Distinguished Service Crosses, over 20 Silver Stars, and hundreds of Bronze Stars, ARCOM’s, and Purple Hearts.
A recipient of a Purple Heart, the Bronze Start with Valor, and two ARCOM’s, SGT Pitts has been nominated for the Distinguished Service Cross as well. Although he is from New Hampshire, SGT Pitts will be coming to Memphis to visit an amazing woman who has given so much of her time for our wounded warriors.
He will be arriving on Sunday afternoon, November 23 at Memphis International airport.
We will then escort SGT. Pitts and Mrs Caruth to her home in Cordova.
Mrs Caruth invites all riders to remain at the home for refreshments and a chance to meet and talk with Ryan.
Staging: We will stage at 3:00 pm at the driveway near the fire station at the airport, near air cargo. Due to security concerns, I will have six riders park near the arrivals area of the terminal, and we will go inside to initially greet SGT. Pitts.
Once we leave the airport, the remaining formation of riders will fall in, and with LEO participation, we will escort them to the home of Mrs Caruth. Let us all get together and give this true hero, one of our Wounded Warriors, a true mid south welcome home that he will never forget.
