McDaniel, Ralph Died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006 At Banner Baywood Hospital in Mesa, Arizona. He was born in Elliott, North Dakota on April 27, 1918, and raised by Fred and Mary McDaniel in Granada, Minnesota. He married his wife Ellein (Nelson) McDaniel on June 19, 1960 in St. James, Minnesota. She survives him along with their son Charles McDaniel and his wife Mary, who with their children, Timothy, Jessica, James, Libby, Savanna and Sierra McDaniel live in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. Extended family relationship includes Paula and Erik Norbom, and grandsons Noah and Jonah of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Ralph was 88 years and 7 months at the time of his death. He graduated from High School in Granada, Minnesota, and attended Mankato State University, for his Bachelor's degree and Master's in Business and accounting. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Floyd, and sisters Florence and Dorothy and their husbands. Ralph's vocation was Station Agent and Telegrapher for the Milwaukee Railroad, from which he retired at the age of 62.
He had served in the Army Signal Corps at the Eisenhower headquarters during World War II. He lived in Woodbury, Minnesota during the summers and Mesa, Arizona during the winters after retirement. He was also a member of the Woodbury VFW Post 9024. He was such a happy person, and so content with God's provisions in his life. It saddens me to yet again ride for an American Hero who has left us. This is doubly sad for me as this hero is from my own town and the service at the church that I attend.
Cpl McDaniel, thank you for your service to our nation and for your part in keeping the world free.
To the McDaniel family, my deepest condolences on your loss. It will be an honor to stand in reverence for Ralph and all of you.
Thank you in advance to everyone who will attend this mission. |

George, Which way are you heading? Up 169? If so, about what time do you think you'd be rolling through Shakopee? I can join up with you when you pass Marschall Road.

We leave Mankato at 0730 and run up US 169 so we should be in Shakopee about 0830-0845. I will need to top off the tank just before arriving at Shakopee as the trip is 88 miles with is stretching my gas supply.

FINAL MISSION REPORT:
Yesterday morning at 0830 members of the Patriot Guard Riders began arriving at thr Rainbow Foods in Woodbury, MN to stage for a mission in honor of CPL Ralph McDaniel, a WWII veteran. Our presence was requested to be show respect as part of a visitation and memorial service in celebration of CPL McDaniel's life. By 0910 more than 40 PGRs had arrived on 35 bikes and 3 cages. A short mission briefing was given and then the group departed for the short ride to Woodbury Lutheran Church.
Upon arrival the bikes and cages were parked at the far end of the lot and flags were gathered up. At 0930 two flag lines were formed on the sidewalk in front of the church and angling up the wide stairway to the main entrance forming a corridor of honor for all to pass through. Flaglines were held in place as guests arrived for the visitation and until after the memorial service started at 1100. CPL McDaniel was later interred in a private ceremony at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
On a personal note I want to once again thank each and every one of you who came out for this mission. To have more than 40 of you come out on a weekday with only 36 hours notice is an amazing and beautiful thing. The dedication of all of you to our mission never ceases to impress me.
To Elly and the rest of the McDaniel family: Thank you for giving us the opportunity to pay our respects for Ralph's service and sacrifice. It was an honor to stand for him. Once again please accept our most sincere condolences on your loss.
May God Bless you all.
Respectfully submitted on this 23rd of November, 2006. |
