Private Richard D. Reiser, an Army Air Corps WWII veteran passed away on 29 September 2006. He worked in intelligence and was a code expert. While in France after D-Day he would advance to the forward lines and establish coded communications to the rear area. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries suffered while he and a fellow soldier were advancing to the forward lines when a German placed land mine was triggered. He suffered near fatal wounds. He was sent back to Southern England to receive appropriate medical care, whereupon he met his wife, a British nurse. They were married in England, December 4, 1945 and came stateside on the Queen Mary. The Patriot Guard has been asked for 8 to 10 members to stand guard during Pvt. Reiser's interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on the afternoon of 06 November 2006. Thank you to all of you who have stepped up to volunteer for this mission. We now have more than enough people to meet the families request for honoring Pvt. Reiser and his service to our nation. With heavy heart, I will not be able to attend this mission due to another funeral mission in Rochester this morning. I didn't get a chance prior to or at the the service to extend my sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Richard Reiser, so I do so now. It was truely an honor for me to be present today at Fort Smelling. Thank you, Richard, for your service and sacrifice.
