I was contacted today about a soldier in my former
unit who was killed here in the states in an auto
accident.

SSG Anderson served in Iraq with the 444 Trans
company, and was with the 94 QM out of sioux city,
iowa.

The funeral is schedualed for this saturday 14:30hrs,
at trinity lutheran church in Arlinton SD. The
contact number that I have is 712-490-7750. That is
for SGT Hammer who is handling the military
arrangements. I'll be there, and hope that this can
get posted in time to get others there as well. Thank
you for your time.

We are just across the border into Mn, and will make every effort to attend this mission tomorrow, to stand watch, and honor the memory of SSG Anderson.

I believe this is the big weekend in SD with the memorial being dedicated out at Pierre, at which most SD PGR riders would be riding in the parade.

I'm going to try and be on the ground at arlinton by 12:30.  I'm not from the area but was in Andersons unit in sioux city for while.  The best plan that I have, since this is short notice is to just have everyone that can make it meet at the church by 14:00 if possible.  Tahnks everyone for their support.

Mission report.

We can't all do everything, but we can all make a difference by doing something, whenever possible. That was never so apparent as today, when waking up to a stormy, windy morning that quickly turned humid, my lady and I left for this mission at noon, arriving about 1:30 pm, and found ourselves the only PGR's in attendance. Standing watch on each side of the church's sidewalk, we silently watched as what appeared to be nearly the entire community file past to attend the funeral of SSG Terry Anderson.

Our solitary bike, flying our nation's colors, followed the single LE squad car from the church to the cemetary, leading the procession. At the entrance to the cemetary, we dismounted and again stood watch with our flags, with hands over our hearts, as the dozens of cars slowly drove by. The LE deputy joined us after his duties at the highway were done, and we soon heard the sounds of the gun salute.

Mother nature held back her tears today until the ceremony was over, but then released a fury of tornadoes, rain and hail across SE South Dakota, that turned our 80 mile return trip into a four hour journey as we dodged and sought shelter from the storms.

Each mission has its special memories, and to stand watch and represent the PGR's by ourselves is certainly one, and the storms will certainly be another, but the most special memory is that of an elderly gentleman, walking with a cane, hunched over, across the street from where we stood watch in front of the church. With effort, he transferred his cane to his left hand, forced himself erect, turned, and saluted our flags, before resuming his walk.

To the family of SSG Anderson, it was our privilege and honor to stand watch for your loved one, and we are so glad we were able to attend.

To his military friends, who so warmly greeted us, it was our day to do something when others couldn't or were at other missions, or showing their respect at the ceremonies in Pierre, and it was the least we could do.  It does not compare at all to what you do for us.

Thank you all for your service.

Trident,
Your solo quest was joined by the spirits of thousands of PGR. Numbers, while impressive, are not always the most important thing. A request was made, and you and yours "stood" the watch for the PGR. Thank you!

The more I do with the PGR, the more I am left in a humble state of awe by you, the RIDERS who without which, these missions would not be possible. The caring, determination and discipline of Patriot Guard Riders never ceases to amaze me.

Trident, thank you for braving the elements to honor SSG Anderson on such short notice. The opening statement of an OUTSTANDING mission review clearly sums it up. Judging by the account of the elderly gentleman stopping to salute the Flags you were holding, tells us that a difference was made this stormy day for SSG Anderson, his family and his community.

Ride safe,
