Friday Oct. 17th
 
The PGR has been asked to render honors for RM 1st Class Ralph ?Verne?
Nichols. Verne Nichols served in the Navy from 1939 to 1945 as was
aboard the USS Curtiss av-4, serving as a Navy Radioman 1st Class when
the attack on Pearl Harbor began.
 
 
The ride plan for this mission has Two parts, one for North End Riders and
one for South End Riders.
 
North End Riders Staging Location:
Lynnwood Convention Center
3711 196th St S.W.
Lynnwood, WA
 
From the North, take I-5 South to Exit 181, slight right to 196th west.
The Convention Center is on your right.
 
From the South, I-5 North to exit 181B towards WA-524/196th St S.W. Left
on Poplar way,Left onto 196th St.Convention Center is on your right.
 
~10:00 AM - RC Mark Telford arrive at staging location
10:15AM - Riders arrive (please be on time !!)
10:30 AM - Ride brief
10:45 AM - Group leaves for LDS Chapel, 17321 44th Ave. W.
11:00 PM - Group  arrives at LDS Chapel 17321 44th Ave. W and
establishes flag line
12:00 PM - Family begins to arrive at LDS Chapel. Flag line in place for
family's arrival.
12:30-1:00 PM - Break down flag line, Escort Team stays at bldg, the
rest of us head for Floral Hills Cemetary, establish a Flag line.
2:00 PM -  Escort team leaves from LDS Chapel for Floral Hills.
2:30 - 3:00 PM - Internment of Verne Nichols.

South End Riders & Escort Team
 
Fellow PGR members,
 
We have been requested by the family of Verne Nichols to provide escort services, appropriate flag lines and honors for him.
 
Petty Officer Verne Nichols served in the US Navy from 1939 to 1945 as was aboard the USS Curtiss (AV-4) serving as Navy Radioman 1st Class when the attack on Pearl Harbor began. 
 
This mission is two parts.
 
Part One is escorting Petty Officer Verne Nichols coach from Tacoma to Lynnwood.
 
Part Two is Memorial Services and Graveside services in Lynnwood.
 
Mark “CheekyMark” Telford is the primary ride captain for this mission and will have responsibility for the mission once we arrive in Lynnwood. It was requested that the south end riders assist them in Part One of this mission.
 
Harold (Gatekeeper) Appelgate will be the R/C for part one of this mission.
 
This ride plan is for Part One ONLY. Stand by for information on Part Two

Assembly point will be BJ's Shell Station, 54th and Tacoma Mall Blvd, Tacoma.

We will meet up with Petty Officer Verne Nichols and his Family members on 6th Ave at Tuell McKee Funeral Home and then escort them to Lynnwood. Our goal is to be in Lynnwood between 11:45 and 12:00. Once in Lynnwood, we will meet up with Mark (Cheekymark) Telford for further instructions. Church services will be at 12:30 and graveside approximately 2:30.

Verne Nichols served from 1939 to 1945 as was In Pearl Harbor aboard the USS Curtiss av-4 serving as Navy Radioman 1st class when the attack on Pearl Harbor began.  He was born in Idaho, moved to CA, where he enlisted. He later married and moved to Colorado then to Washington state and eventually back to CA after his first wife died. He leaves behind his wife Mary Nichols and many children and grandchildren.

On Monday 13 October 2008 The PGR will Form a flag line as  family and friends arrive at The Mormon chapel 6500 Atherton St Long Beach CA. Services will begin at 1100 until 1200. Following there will be a lunch for the family and PGR until 1230ish then it is requested that the PGR escort Verne to the Kenzie Mortuary 3843 East Anaheim st. Long Beach CA.

Please feel free attend any portion of this mission you can.
You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. If this will be your first mission go to the staging area you will be briefed there. Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage.

Even though Verne Nichols would probably never consider himself a "War Hero" I find it easy to classify him as one of our "War Heros". I am sad to say that I wont be able to attend the Service of this great Man, I will be there in Spirit. God Bless The Nichols Family and Friends, and God Bless America.

How sad that we have lost another Pearl Harbor survivor, so many heros, now gone, but NEVER forgotten. I have been fortunate enough to visit the Pearl Harbor memorial in Hawaii, and tears fell as the air swirled around me heavy with the spirit of the thousands of heros that were there that day, if you've ever been there you know what I mean, there is a truly palpable presence of strength, honor, valor, and sadness. GOD BLESS YOU Seaman Nichols, may you rest in peace knowing that we all THANK YOU for your service, and revere your memory and sacrifice. My sincere condolences to the family of this hero, who must be SO proud, may you take comfort in your vast memories of this long life well lived by your husband, dad, grandfather, brother and friend.
