Patriot Guard Riders, Below is the invitation for us to attend this Memorial Dedication: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On August 30, 2008 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. there will be a dedication ceremony of a memorial picnic shelter at Maplewood State Park near Pelican Rapids. Volunteers have raised the money and done the work to erect a beautiful memorial to Josh Hanson who was killed in action in Iraq on August 30, 2006. Josh was the son of Bob & Kathy Hanson. Bob is the Park Manager of Maplewood State Park. I wanted to make sure you know about the dedication ceremony, and know that we would love to have the Patriot Guard present for the event. Bob & Kathy have said it would be great to have Patriot Guard members there also. I do realize that is Labor Day weekend, and many of your members may already have family commitments or other things that would keep them from attending. Please just know you are welcome and appreciated for all you do for soldiers and their families. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Joshua Hanson was in Company A out of the Detroit Lakes Armory, Minnesota National Guard, and served in Bosnia prior to volunteering for duty in Iraq. We Honored Joshua with his Honor Escort, Funeral and Interment Missions in September of 2006. MNPG stood the Flag Line at the Ground Breaking Ceremony earlier this year at Maplewood State Park and now we will Honor Joshua at the Dedication of the above Picnic Shelter in his Memory on the second anniversary of his ultimate sacrifice for our Country. Mission Plan for Saturday, August 30th, 2008: 12:30pm - Staging at the turn around on left side of road prior to reaching the Maplewood State Park check-in facility (1 mile S of entrance). 12:50pm - Briefing and kickstands up for an approximate 2 mile ride to Ceremony site. Flags can be unfurled at staging area. 1:00pm - Set Flag Lines 1:45pm - Music will begin 2:00pm - Dedication Ceremony 3:00pm - Ceremony ends and we are released
Riders coming from Detroit Lakes can stage at the Hwy 59 South/Co. Rd 6 gas station approximately 2 miles south of Hwy 10. 11:30am staging time and kickstands up at 11:45am. Maplewood State Park entrance is 7.4 miles East of Pelican Rapids on MN State Hwy 108. The staging turn around is approximately 1 mile South of the entrance.
Please continue to watch for updates if needed for this Mission at http://mnpatriotguard.org or www.patriotguard.org. Please bring your 3' x 5' flags. Mounted Flags will be flown from the staging area to the Dedication site (20 mph). Remember to be self sufficient for food and water and wear appropriate clothing for the weather. David J. Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of SSG Joshua Nelson. May God help you though this difficult time and sorrow. Know
your son was and is a Hero to us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with
you always. He will never be forgotten.
Rest Safely and Securely in God's Loving Arms, Joshua.
Going home, going home,
I'm just going home.
Quiet-like, slip away-
I'll be going home.
It's not far, just close by;
Jesus is the Door;
Work all done, laid aside,
Fear and grief no more.
Friends are there, waiting now.
He is waiting, too.
See His smile! See His hand!
He will lead me through.
Morning
Star lights the way;
Restless dream all done;
Shadows gone, break of day,
Life has just begun.
Every tear wiped away,
Pain and sickness gone;
Wide awake there with Him!
Peace goes on and on!
Going home, going home,
I'll be going home.
See the Light! See the Sun!
I'm just going home.

| Patriot Guard Riders,
As I ponder our Mission today, I have to reflect some of the events that occurred that brought so many wonderful people together to Honor one of our Fallen Heroes, SSG Joshua Hanson, KIA August 30, 2006, Iraq. Are we to be thankful that the Westboro Baptist Church was the reason for Patriot Guard Riders to begin, no. But, would we Patriot Guard Riders really be doing what we do if it were not for those misguided individuals. I would hope so. If the Vietnam Veterans had been welcomed home instead of being ostracized, would we be still be doing what we do today. I hope so. To recognize the importance of the men and women who are serving in our Military should be upper most in all American's thoughts but surely too many are more concerned with their own daily lives than of the lives and sacrifices of those who allow them to have those daily lives. Not the Patriot Guard Riders. Today 51 Patriot Guard Riders and Patriots, riding 41 motorcycles, showed up at a secluded Maplewood State Park near Pelican Rapids to bring Honor, Dignity and Respect for the remembrance of Joshua. You Patriot Guard Riders made a world of difference to Bob, Kathy and Jake Hanson, Josh's brother. We had Patriots from Kansas, North Dakota, and Minnesota and we even had one very special lady, a current soldier serving in Iraq who is home on leave, who came to Honor Josh. I am disgusted with myself for not remembering her name. She gave of her time from her 5 year old child to be here today and even more importantly, she is giving all of us her time to defend the Freedoms of our Country and to assist the people of Iraq in their hope to become a democracy of the people. Richard and Jan Riewer, Gold Star Parents whose son SSG Greg Riewer was KIA, March 23, 2007 in Iraq, were also in attendance at Joshua's Memorial Dedication. The Memorial Dedication had to be delayed for approximately 1/2 hour because people were still arriving at the entrance to the park at the start time. Not a problem for Patriot Guards. Especially on this beautiful sunny and thankfully breezy Saturday afternoon. We have endured harsh weather for hours in the past so today was a blessed day for us to stand in Honor of Joshua. Our Flag Lines were up at approximately 1:00pm and we stood down approximately 3:30pm. Mission Complete.
