This is the final Itinerary for the Patriot Guard Mission to honor John Edward Crawford, Sr., USA, Veteran, Frederick, MD. Mr. Crawford attained the rank of Master Sergeant in the Army during WWII and provided transportation to POW’s captured by allied forces. After his discharge from the Army, he spent time in the Maryland State Guard’s Bridge and Dam Division providing protection to the state’s bridges, dams, and utilities. An electrician by trade in civilian life, he retired in 1985.
He loved gardening and sharing the fruits of his labors with friends and family. He was also savvy with the computer and loved to play electronic games. Through is playful nature, he loved to clown around, he would put all who met him at ease. He was a true American Hero.
He was pre-deceased in 1955 by his wife, whom he called the love of his life, Betty Jane Reynolds-Crawford. He is survived by his children Trudy Crawford-Hill and John Crawford, Jr.; and a large extended family.
He passed away on November 15, 2009. Interment will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick, MD, on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at approximately 1000 hrs.

Final Inspection
The soldier stood and faced God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining. Just as brightly as his brass. "Step forward now, soldier. How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been true?" The soldier squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't. Because those of us who carry guns, Can't always be a saint. I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was tough. And sometimes I've been violent, Because the world is awfully rough. But, I never took a penny, That wasn't mine to keep.... Though I worked a lot of overtime. When the bills just got too steep. And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God, forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears. I know I don't deserve a place, Among the people here. They never wanted me around, Except to calm their fears. If you've a place for me here, Lord. It needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don’t, I’ll understand. There was a silence all around the throne, Where the saints had often trod. As the soldier waited quietly, For the judgment of his God. "Step forward now, soldier you’ve borne your burdens well. Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets; you’ve done your time in Hell."

To those I love and to those who loved me: When I am gone, release me, let me go. I have so many things to see and do. You must not tie yourself to me with tears Be thankful for our beautiful years.
I gave to you my love you can only guess, How much you gave to me in happiness, I thank you for the love you each have shown, But now it's time I traveled alone.
So grieve a while for me, if grieve you must. Then let your grief be comforted by trust. It's only for a time that we must part So, bless the memories within your heart.
I won't be far away, for life goes on So if you need me, call and I will come. Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near All my love around you soft and clear And then, when you must come this way alone, I'll greet you with a smile and say, "Welcome Home"
