Doug Dorn, Vietnam Veteran from North Mankato, MN passed away at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis. Doug's wife Betty has invited the MN Patriot Guard to attend her husband's funeral. The funeral is scheduled for Mon, 10 Sep 2007 at 0930 hrs at Hosanna Lutheran Church, 105 Hosanna Ave, Mankato, MN.
Staging
0900 - Stage at the Walmart parking lot, 1881 Madison Ave, Mankato, MN (near the corner of Madison Ave and Hwy 22)
0920 - Mission Briefing
0925 - Ride to Hosanna Lutheran Church 105 Hosanna Ave, Mankato
0930 - Set up flag line
1000 - Visitation begins
1100 - Funeral begins
1200 est - end of Funeral
This ends the official MN Patriot Guard part of this mission.
Friends of the family and those experienced riders wishing to be a part of the escort from Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato to Ft. Snelling in Minneapolis, MN may do so, but this is NOT a MN Patriot Guard part of the mission. MN Patriot Guard members will stand on the flag line for the visitation and funeral only. Friends of the family and those wishing to be a part of the escort may do so as private citizens. Doug had wished for a motorcycle escort to his final resting spot.
The RCIC for this mission will be George H Winslow, Jr. Feel free to contact George at george@mnpatriotguard.org about this mission.
Please remember to bring a 3x5 foot US Flag and pole, water to drink, and dress according to the weather forecast. We must be self-sufficient.

Though many didn't give the Viet Nam Vets the credit they deserved for their actions I can not express my gratitude enough for all they did in helping to preserve our freedoms. On Monday morning we staged at the Mankato Walmart parking lot. I was once again surprised when I rode up and saw so many bikes already waiting as I pulled up. The weather forecast was 60% chance of rain. We experienced only a sight misting as we gathered for the staging, but it ended quickly. The rain passed by us. By the time we rode over to Hosanna Lutheran Church we had 18 motorcycles and 3 people in cages for a total of 21 people on such short notice. At 0930 we lined up in front of the church, to pay our respects and honor to Doug Dorn, Vietnam Veteran, US Army 1964-1967 and to his family, friends and his community. The family arrived about 0940. A son and a son-in-law both walked the flag line shaking everyone's hand and thanking us for being there. The widow thanked us for being there, both as she walked up to the church and later when she talked with the RCIC inside the church. She said "I'd hoped for maybe five people and couldn't believe my eyes when I saw all of you standing there." The pastor came out and thanked everyone and was amazed at the turn out. At 1000 hrs we watched the people arrive for the visitation. A lot of people as they walked past the flag line thanked us for what we do. At 1100 hrs the funeral started. We broke the flag line for 25 minutes then reformed, when we were joined by the North Mankato American Legion Post #518. They presented the family with a flag, did a 21 gun salute and played taps. Then everyone attending the funeral returned back inside the church for lunch. We broke the flag line and returned to our homes and places of work. At about 1300 hrs a group of friends, independent of MN Patriot Guard rode escort for the funeral procession to Ft Snelling where the interment ceremony was held.
