Just got off the phone with the Air Force Academy Base Police. Just like last time, they will be picking us up as soon as we cross over I-25 and start towards the base, and will be escorting us all the way up to the Chapel. They want me to be sure and stress to everybody that the bikers will have to be sure you have all the correct gear on before you enter the base ,and make sure you put everything back on when you leave.

Bikers need to be wearing or have all of the following, Helmet, goggles or faceshield on helmet (sunglasses are not enough) long pants, long sleeve shirt, ankle covering footwear, full-fingered leather gloves, reflective vest or belt, driver's license, registration, and proof-of insurance.

Also, they are expecting us to be rolling in a few minutes after 11:00 am, so have your gear on before the mission briefing begins at 1045, because we will be rolling at 1100 SHARP

STAGING FOR THIS MISSION WILL BE AT DENNY'S ON NORTH ACADEMY BLVD (JUST SHORT OF I-25). STAGING TIME IS 1100.

All riders, please remember that helmets, reflective vest or belt, long pants, long sleeve shirt, boots, and goggles are required on the Air Force Academy. If anyone has an extra reflective vest or belt, could you please stash it in your saddle bag, in case someone else forgets to bring one.

MSgt Randy Gillespie, your mission here on earth is complete. Rest easy, my Air Force brother, and may God grant peace to your family and friends.

I will not be able to attend this mission, but will be there in spirit. I know that my PGR brothers and sisters will do all of us proud.

Denver and northern Colorado, we will stage in Castle Rock and ride on down to Colorado Springs, where Kristen Coderre will be the Ride Captain. We will meet at the Walgreen's on Wilcox. As you are going south on I-25, take exit #181, the Plum Creek exit. Turn left and go under the highway, and then take the first possible left into the Walgreen's parking lot. If you make it to the stoplight at Wilcox, you have gone too far, and will have to turn left and make your way back to the Walgreen's.

Staging -------- 0930 (9:30 am)
Ride Briefing - 0945 (9:45 am)
KSU ------------ 1000 (10:00 am) SHARP

Note to all riders coming back north after the mission. Northbound I-25 was a mess the last time I drove it, and would have been dangerous on a motorcycle. I plan to take the side road from Monument up to Sedalia on the way home to bypass most of this.

I want to send a huge Thank You out to the Arizona PGR for all that you have done for MSgt. Randy J. Gillespie and his family and friends the last few days. From all the reports I have heard, you all did an amazing job down there, and it will definitely be an honor to take the mission over here in Colorado. Louann, thank you for all of your hard work and help, and please let everybody in Arizona know that we appreciate all that you did, and that you will be a hard act to follow.

This mission is now confirmed in Colorado in Colorado Springs at the Air Force Academy. The service will be held at the Cadet's Chapel at 1230 (12:30 pm) on Saturday, 28 Jul 07. The family will be leaving on their own after the service to spend some last moments with Randy, and will be spreading his ashes in the mountains. Please join us as we in the Colorado PGR stand for this hero and his loved ones.

Kristen Coderre, Colorado Assistant State Captain, will be the Ride Captain for this part of the mission, and will soon be posting staging place and time in Colorado Springs. I will post a staging area for the Denver-metro area and Northern Colorado, and will lead all that join me down to Kristen, where she will be in charge.

Rest in Peace MSgt Randy J. Gillespie - rest in peace warrior

my Commander here at Luke AFB has expressed the feelings and condolences of the entire base to the family and friends of this man.

Freddie C. Ross CTRC (R) USN 58-87 - Luke AFB Civilian GS

Thunderbolts

The Department of Defense will announce this evening that one of our own, Master Sgt. Randy J. Gillespie, 56th Logistics Readiness Squadron, died 9 July from wounds received during ground combat operations while deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

MSgt Gillespie was deployed with the 755 ESPTS, 755th Air Expeditionary Group, Herat, Afghanistan, where he was performing Embedded Training Team duties with the new Afghan National Army. He was an outstanding senior NCO and friend to many people here. The deep sense of sorrow we feel here at Luke serves as a reminder of the sacrifices borne by the men and women of our Armed Forces. MSgt Gillespie will be remembered as a tremendous husband and father, patriot, warrior, and a proud American who volunteered to serve in his nation’s Air Force. He served with courage and commitment and believed in duty, honor and country. I ask that you please keep MSgt Gillespie and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Rest your head
Oh weary son
Your watch on earth
Now is done

In a land far away
you went to war
To keep the evil
From our shore

Staying on course
Always standing tall
Protecting our land
You gave your all

Blessed are those
That battle for right
For GOD has said
You are HEROS in HIS sight

Your honor and pride
Stood tall all the way
And now you have come
To the end of your day

Your watch is over
PGR will take it from here
With all the respect
We stand for so dear

You will ride in our hearts
Down the FLAG filled road
Thank you, BRAVE WARRIOR
You carried our load

Protecting us all
By both day and night
Never once flinching
In the heat of the fight

As we ride for you now
Our hearts filled with sorrow
Never to forget you
For all of the tomorrows

When the bugle plays TAPS
And the rifles will sound
Our eyes will be full
Our tears on the ground

You will be missed
By ones never met
You are our HERO
We will never forget

GOD BLESS OUR MIGHTY AND VIGILANT MILITARY. SECOND TO NONE. BECAUSE OF THEM WE ARE STILL FREE.

A Soldier's Prayer
(author unknown)

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

I want to thank everybody that has sent us items for the children of Afghanistan. I've been overwhelmed with toys, candy & clothing for our local village children. I've received packages from coast to coast and then some! We have enough of those things to last our tour here. I have enjoyed reading your letters and if you have an e-mail address I'll gladly write back. I'd like to switch gears now and start collecting notebooks, pens, pencils and basic school supplies to assist in stocking the schools that we are building here in Afghanistan. Your contributions are making a big difference in the lives of these kids. The attached photo is of my Embedded Training Team. I'm the good-looking one . Thanks again for all you do to support us.

To the family and friends of MSgt. Gillespie, please know that we hold your Airman in the Highest Regard as an American Hero. Your loss has not gone unnoticed and it is not in vain.

In the Air Force, the words, "Lost to enemy action" have become so rare that when we lose one of our own it makes us stop and realize just how big the evils are of the world that threaten our freedom. I'm proud to have the Logistics Readiness Squadrons in the Air Force, without them our casualties would be infinitely higher and there is no telling if we would be able to defend out country; for MSgt Gillespie and his unit to be able to complete their mission and provide items for the children of Afghanistan is overwhelming. We couldn't be prouder of the work they do over there.

Go with God, Randy, He'll take you home.

Canyon Shearer, SSgt, USAF
Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds...and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of...wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up, the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, nor ever eagle flew.
And while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space...
...put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
