A Soldier's Prayer
(author unknown)

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

This past July I attended the Reunion of the 1st Cavalry Division Association at Louisville, and a number of the Cav's young troopers came up from Fort Hood to share some time with us. We knew that all these young people would soon be going in harm's way once again. They all are as important to us as our own children and grandchildren; and it is with deep sorrow that I have read of the loss of Sgt John E. Cooper. I wish to express my heartfelt sympathy to the family of John Cooper, and pray that The God of Our Fathers will abide with them, and hold them in his loving arms.
