Be advised that the funeral procession will be using the interstate so check your big flags.  However, we will be doing "Riding With Respect" speed (55-65 only).

Ride Report for the Honor Mission to the memory of ‘Gunner’
{please feel free to post your reflections in this forum}

I began this honor mission for our Vietnam Veteran Hero by attending the visitation Wednesday evening.  I met the family, paid my respects and stood to the side with my flag.  I was later joined by Ken (redspec5) who also helped relieve me standing guard.  I welcomed his company in more ways than one.   To put things as politely as possible, I needed frequent breaks and did not want to leave the vigil unattended if possible!!

Friday I was pleased to see Arnie (Fat Fred) and his truck already in the parking lot when I arrived about 9AM.  Soon, other Patriot Guard arrived including 2 other ride captains, Sean and Todd, and Brad our faithful road captain.  I believe about 25 in all.    Many familiar faces and 3 on their first mission with us this morning.  See, I told you I’d forget all your names or I’d have listed you all!  As the leathernecks and family left the ceremony, they were met with a straight and proud flag line.  When the door on the limosine closed, I had the Patriot Guard began the “fall out” to prepare for Gunner’s final ride.

We followed the funeral procession from Bisch Funeral Home and “rode with respect” on our way to Camp Butler National Cemetery under beautiful clear skies.

I presented Teri with a copy of your condolences from the forum.  I also gave her the flag that was flown on my bike in honor of Gunner, my personal condolence card, and a Marine flag on behalf of the VFW.

I will never get over the lights of the motorcycles in my mirrors on this or any mission.  It has the same affect as taps.  I will not forget the smell of the gun powder from standing up wind of the 21 gun salute today.  The marine honor guard did him proud.  Ask me, “Did you hug a marine today?”  Yep I did and more than one.

I regret that Gunner will miss the birth of his grandchild that’s due any day.  I know he was looking forward to the arrival.  All I can say is that birth is future hope for a brighter future in this family!

I want to thank the funeral director, Philip Bisch, who was more than kind.

I am proud to be a Patriot Guard and to be there for those like Gunner who had served for me so long ago.[

I was moved by the flag drawn and signed by Gunner's grandchildren.

Missions never get easier or are any ever the same... My heart breaks a little more on each and every one... Marine Walter "Gunner" Rynders services at Camp Butler National Cemetary was beautiful and fitting indeed... Stark white row upon rows of Memorial stones contrasted against the vibrant green grass marking the final resting place of American Veterans... The hauntingly sweet melody from the bagpipes, the view of gently rippling flags in combination against the blue sunny sky, smooth and polished moves of the Marine Honor Guard, the sharp scent of gun smoke and crack of the shots from the 21 gun salute, the sight of "Gunners" brothers in Arms Leathernecks M/C saluting and finally the soft lingering notes of Taps... My tears came, my prayers was said, my thanks was given to "Gunner" and the many others who also had gone on...
Never forget !!!
.
PGR members recieved personal thanks from several Leathernecks, to me it was no small gesture, especially from those who have "been there, done that", it reassures me that PGR is doing the "right" thing...
.
I will continue to stand for our Veterans with PGR as PGR stands tall with Honor and Respect for the Veterans families and friends to draw comfort and strength...
.

Brad
