Christopher R. Jochum
USMC Vietnam Veteran
Kenosha
August 28, 2010 Please Come Prepared With Your Own Flags
Christopher R. Jochum passed away Monday, July 26, 2010, at University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison surrounded by his loving family. Christopher served with distinction in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era from January of 1970 until January of 1973. A graduate of the Marine Corps' prestigious Sea School, Sergeant Jochum was assigned as the Non-commissioned Officer in charge of the Flag Marines aboard the USS Chicago and the personal Orderly and Driver for Admiral W.P. Mack. Christopher was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with Star, the Sharpshooter Rifle Shooting Badge, the Marksman Pistol Shooting Badge, and letters of appreciation in 1970 and 1972
He enjoyed riding his Harley and spending time with his dog, Sassy. Because of his Marine service, Christopher requested a “burial at sea”. While the family is gathered at the edge of the park, Christopher’s will be scattered in Lake Michigan. There will be a memorial service and 21 gun salute. The Patriot Guard has been asked to share in this event in memory of Christopher.

Karon and I would like to offer our most sincere condolences and prayers to the family and friends of Christopher R. Jochum, USMC Vietnam Veteran. Please rest assured that Christopher has now reported to his new duty station and, as the last verse of the Marine Corps Hymn says, is now, along with his Marine brothers, "Guarding The Streets of Heaven". “If the Army and the Navy ever look on Heaven’s scenes, they will find the streets are guarded by United States Marines”.
WELCOME HOME BROTHER Rest in eternal peace my Marine brother.
“Some people live their entire lifetime and wonder if they ever made a difference to the world, Marines don’t have that problem.” — Ronald Reagan

"Lest I keep my complacent way I must remember somewhere out there a person died for me today. As long as there must be war, I ask and I must answer was I worth dying for?" — Eleanor Roosevelt
“The American Flag does not fly because the wind moves past it. The American Flag flies from the last breath of each Soldier, Sailor, Airman & Marine who has died protecting it.”
"Honor to the Soldier, and Sailor everywhere, who bravely bears his country's cause. Honor also to the citizen who cares for his brother in the field, and serves, as he best can, the same cause -- honor to him, only less than to him, who braves, for the common good, the storms of heaven and the storms of battle."
