The Patriot Guard Riders have been requested to stand in Honor and Respect for Cpl Harold R. Harper, 96, U.S. Army WWII Veteran, as he is laid to rest on Sunday, 22 November, at 1400.

Florida PGR paid honors to Cpl Harper today in Jacksonville and he is being transported to Moundsville, WV for graveside services on Sunday.

Arrangements are being handled by Altmeyer Funeral Home in Moundsville, WV.  Details of our participation, beyond standing a flag line during graveside services, are still being worked out.  Strong possibility exists that we will be requested to provide escort from Moundsville to Greenwood Cemetery in Bellaire, OH.

WV RC Bernie Doyle is the RCIC for this mission.

Please follow this thread for updates and make a concerted effort to stand for another of America's Greatest Generation.

On-line condolences may be made at: http://obit.altmeyer.com/obitdisplay.html?task=Print&id=728125&listing=Current.

We mourn the loss of yet another member of “The Greatest Generation”. It’s because of the sacrifices of the past, so unselfishly rendered by heroes like Hal Harper, that we have the freedoms our nation enjoys today. May the friends and loved ones of Mr. Harper stand proudly, knowing thousands of patriots across this country are very appreciative of those who have stepped up over the years, to defend America. Well done, Sir!

For this country, this Warrior has stood the watch.

While some of us were in our beds at night, this Warrior stood the watch.

While some of us were in school learning our trade, this Warrior stood the watch.

Yes, even before some of us were born into this world ... this Warrior stood the watch.

In those years when the storm clouds of war were seen brewing on the horizon of history this Warrior stood the watch.

Many times he would cast an eye home and see his family standing there ... needing his guidance and help ... needing that hand to hold during those hard times ... but he still stood the watch.

He stood the watch for years, He stood the watch so that we, our families, and our fellow countrymen could sleep soundly in safety each and every night knowing that a Warrior stood the watch.

Today we are here to say “Friend, the watch stands relieved. Relieved by those you have led, guided, and trained. You stand relieved. We have the watch.”

GOD BLESS!

Final Inspection

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now,soldier.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime.
When the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord.
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now,soldier
you’ve borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets;
you’ve done your time in Hell."
