Bay County Veteran's Day Events 2009-Mission complete

On a blustery morning on Veterans Day, 2009, 12 bikes, 2 trikes and 2 cages of the PGR and about a dozen bikes of the Vietnam Vets/Legacy Vets MC lined up to begin about a 5 hour mission. With a minor amount of confusion, a parade being led by dignitaries and motorcycles began its trek down Harrison Ave., Panama City, FL. Considering we had been slammed by Tropical Storm Ida the day before and it was still being drizzly and windy, the turn out for our warriors was great.

When we arrived at the Panama City Marina, we parked and waited until the parade concluded and then assembled to form a flag line for the Wreath Ceremony for our Heroes. We were joined by additional PGR members who had not been in the parade.

At the conclusion of those events, we were off to the Sims Veterans Home, where we rejoined with the Vietnam Vets/Legacy Vets MC, AMVETS, ALR and others to show honor and respect to the residents. We formed a flag line and each of the Heroes name’s were called and branch of service named as they walked through the line. The smiles could not have gotten bigger or the feelings stronger. It was one of those “you just had to have been there” moments.

We receive a communication from Dan Marvin, VTFNF, which in part said:

“Once again the members of the PGR did a great flag line for these warriors. As I assisted Bill a 36 year veteran and B-29 Flight Engineer thru the line I got a different perspective of the flag line. After everyone departed I had time to talk to several of the men and women we honored today. Believe me that's all they talked about and the staff told me they will still be talking about all next week. So on their behalf please pass on a big THANKS to everyone that made the extra effort today to make a warrior’s day so special. What started out as a damp drizzly day ended with smiles on these warriors faces.

Respectfully, Dan Marvin-President

Veterans Task Force of Northwest Florida

Thank you all who gave your time for this event when you could have been doing other things.

Standing in the flag line for those Heroes who have slipped the purly bonds of Earth, put out their hand, and touched the face of God.
