Thank you to Colorado Assistant State Captain Ted Malone, and Forum Moderator Pattie for posting this mission. Yes, as stated in the lower part of the top post, I knew and worked with Danny for many years, and still work with his wife and my friend, Janet. Danny was one of those 'crazy' personalities that people were instantly drawn to, and all of us that worked with him were so glad to see him retire and enjoy his retirement so much. What most of us did not know was that he had been sick for a long time, suffering from various things probably brought on by exposure to agent orange during his time serving for the Army in Vietnam. The very last time I got to sit with him and talk, he told me a story about working with 60 gallon drums of the stuff with hand cranks on top, and how they would get the stuff all over themselves as they worked to load it for use. Horrible the way the stuff got into their systems and caused so many of our veterans such pain and anguish later in their lives.....

Danny was a motorcycle rider, and had just recently joined the Patriot Guard Riders, although never having the chance to ride on a mission because of his recent fight with Leukemia. Danny was a really great guy, and will be missed by many. I will be attending this mission in PGR attire, but will be attending the services instead of standing the flag lines. Janet and the rest of his family will be extremely honored to have any of you that possibly can to attend this mission, and I know I will be particularly humbled to have you all there for my friends.

Ride Safe, and see you on Thursday.

"Patriot Guard Riders"
Why do they come? They don't even know him. Yet they stand for hours. In the cold, the heat, in the rain, in the snow, they never ask for a thing in return. But yet they receive so much. Many are veterans. Many are not. Why do they care? They stand in silence. They stand with tears in their eyes. They stand for a fallen hero. They stand because they care. They stand in respect. They stand in honor. They stand because they must. They stand because it is their duty. Their duty is to the fallen. Their duty is to their country. Their duty is to the grieving family. And their duty is to themselves. They are the Patriot Guard Riders. And they will stand until someone stands for them.

Father Bob and I went over today to see Janet. She had asked if we could get Danny's Harley to the services at the church and at Ft Logan. We had to charge it for a while but Bob got it started. I asked Bob to ride the bike and he was honored to be asked and will do so. Bob recognized the bike, having seen it around before, so he and Danny have probably met. I instantly thought of Bob when asked to get the bike to the services, thinking that he and Danny were so much alike.

I showed Janet how to get onto the PGR website, and she got a chance to look through the various things everybody has posted during the time that we all prayed for Danny as he fought to live, and now that we are preparing to stand and show them honor and respect. She has asked that I let all know how amazed and thankful she us for an organization like the PGR, where a group will write and do such wonderful things for people they do not know. After the mission is over, I will sit down with her again and help her post in her own words......

Bob and I then drove by the church to lay eyes on the area. The parking lot we are using for staging is the same we used a few years ago, with plenty of space, but a few issues. The southwest half of the lot is paved, and we should be careful to save that part for motorcycles. The other half is very loose gravel, so lets be sure to park all cages in that area.

I want to again thank everybody for all the thoughts and prayers you have given to Janet and Danny the last couple of weeks, and for all the support you have given Janet since Danny moved on to heaven. I greatly appreciate all of you that will be attending the services, and want all of you that want to but cannot to know that I understand and thank you for being there with us in spirit.
