04 Nov 2009 7:51 PM Alert

At 105, Allan Jackson was anything but old, even in his frail state.  He loved
telling stories and people loved listening to them.  It was said that, "You
always knew that he was glad to see you."  He would have turned 106 later this
month, but passed away Monday at home.

Mr. Jackson was born in 1903 and had 15 brothers and sisters.  His twin brother
still lives in New York and his older brother, 108, lives on the east coast as
well.

Allan was married 7 times, but only divorced once.  He had 38 children and 50+
great grand children.

In 1942 he enlisted in the Army. He served two years in China, Burma and India,
transferring fuel for U.S. bombers before being sent to Camp Kearns in the Salt
Lake Valley in 1944. He was the last soldier to leave Camp Kearns in 1946.

Today marks a sad day for Utah and anyone that knew and loved him.

The Patriot Guard has been invited to stand in honor of this great man.

STAGING: Staging will be at 8:30 AM at the Maverik on Redwood Road and Center
Street in North Salt Lake with KSU at 9:15 AM.

SERVICE:  North Pointe Rose Park Ward
          1460 N. Morton Dr.
          Salt Lake City, UT
A flag line will be set at the church until the service begins.

An escort will be provided to the Salt Lake City Cemetery where the interment
will take place.

RIDE CAPTAIN for this mission is Wayne "Bighorn" Hunting.  801-381-1904.

WEATHER:  Highs will be in the low 60's and partly sunny, dress accordingly and
PLEASE! stay hydrated and as always ride/drive safe.

**As a side note, Mr. Jackson was suppose to be the Grand Marshall in the Kearns
Day Parade early this year. The Patriot Guard was invited to escort him.  He
fell gravely ill the night before and was unable to attend.  After the parade,
several of the Patriot Guard Riders decided to go and visit him in the hospital.
These men and women, that visited with him that day, made him feel like the hero
he should have felt like all along.

They made such an impression on him, that he went out and bought a Harley doo
rag and a leather jacket and was the "PGR" for Halloween.

He will be sorely missed.

God surely must have needed another angel. I met Mr. Jackson (Jackson as he was requested his friends to call him and that was everyone he met). Thank you Pam for bringing him into our lives. To those that didnt have the joy of meeting him he was an inspiring man. Please take the time and read about his life. We will send you off proud as I am sure you will be looking down on us as we weep tears for our loss. You touch so many of us in ways I cant explain. God bless and God speed I am sure you are running the fields of glory with your health returned to you.

Jackson was a wonderful man. His little partner is among those who miss him. Our hearts ache for Pam and Lynn. Our prayers are with them, as they struggle. Just think, he is having rootbeer floats with the Angels! Rest well Jackson, for you truly deserve it.

It is rare when you can know someone for such a short period of time, and yet still have your life profoundly touched by them.  Jackson was just such a man.  His story is nothing short of amazing, his life is something to be remembered and celebrated.  His service, both in and out of uniform, is something that must always be appreciated.  His wisdom and love can never be taken away from those who knew him.

It will be my honor to stand with him.  To those of us who met him, he was one of us.

Rest well, Jackson - I know you got your tap-dancing legs back.  Enjoy your rest, Sir - you've earned it.l

Even though we only meet twice I was impressed by his positive attitude and his "up" view of life.  I can only hope to be the same when I'm half his age.  Thanks Jackson for your service and for the impact you've had on us all.  Tomorrow I'll have the "Jackson Boards" on the trike in memory of the ride we had together and all the ones we'll miss. Bless you and yours.

Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Allan Jackson ,Thanks for being one of our greatest heroes. God Bless. And God Bless, The fellow soldiers that stands for us everyday.Thank you for your dedicated service and sacrifice to defend this great nation of ours.

We salute you , My Friend

Final Inspection

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now,soldier.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime.
When the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord.
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now,soldier
you’ve borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets;
you’ve done your time in Hell."

I was asked to post this, via email.

"As the Salt Lake County Mayor, on behalf of the citizens of Utah, I would like to extend my condolences to the Jackson family for their loss. Alan Jackson was an American and Utah hero. He will be missed. ~ Peter Corroon"

This was a direct quote and I will gladly share the email, just let me know.
