To all Louisiana Members
I am once again forced to ask for assistance in honoring a young, hard-charging Soldier that lost his life too soon.
SPC Michael Lichtey was a former member of the 2228th MP Co with "Blisters"
Chappell. SPC Lichtey was also a very respected member of the Louisiana Military Funeral Honors team and was going to deploy in January with the 256 Infantry Brigade.
SPC Lichtey was killed this weekend in an accidental death (not sure of any details). SPC Lichtey was always impressed with the PGR missions that he was part of as the Military Funeral Honors team and had just bought a motorcycle this past week so that he could start to participate in these missions.
If you can participate, the details are below. I am trying to see if I can be RC on Friday, but I know I can't on Thursday. Anybody that can help, please let me know.
Rush Funeral Home in Pineville,
Visitation 05 November 2009 (Thursday)
14:00 - 16:00 Family only
16:00-22:00 Friends
Funeral Services will be on Friday 06 November 2009
Visitation 10:00-14:00
Services 14:00 @ Rush funeral Home with burial to follow services at: TBD (family is still trying to confirm which cemetery they will use, (Forest Lawn or Alexandria Memorial)

Final Inspection
The soldier stood and faced God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining. Just as brightly as his brass. "Step forward now, soldier. How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been true?" The soldier squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't. Because those of us who carry guns, Can't always be a saint. I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was tough. And sometimes I've been violent, Because the world is awfully rough. But, I never took a penny, That wasn't mine to keep.... Though I worked a lot of overtime. When the bills just got too steep. And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God, forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears. I know I don't deserve a place, Among the people here. They never wanted me around, Except to calm their fears. If you've a place for me here, Lord. It needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don’t, I’ll understand. There was a silence all around the throne, Where the saints had often trod. As the soldier waited quietly, For the judgment of his God. "Step forward now, soldier you’ve borne your burdens well. Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets; you’ve done your time in Hell."

To the family and friends of the ever so young Spc Michael Lichtey, There are no words or platitudes that can temper your pain. I can’t think of anything in life that could be more painful, then the loss of a loved one, especially a son. I would, however, like to take a moment to remind you that as deep as the hole in your heart feels at this time, it will be filled over time with the wonderful times spent together. “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal” ~From a headstone in Ireland Thank you Michael for your service to our nation, and it's people, you are a hero to all.
