DoD Identifies Army Casualty

            The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
            Spc. Brandon K. Steffey, 23, of Sault Sainte Marie, Mich., died Oct. 25 in Laghman province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 178th Military Police Detachment, 89th Military Police Brigade, III Corps, Fort Hood, Texas.

There are no words we can say to ease the pain of your loss. I want you to know that I care very much about what you are going through. He was, obviously, a courageous man who put others ahead of himself.

This grateful nation owes him more than we can ever repay. May we ever live our lives in a way that will honor his great sacrifice.

He is now in Heaven covering our backs as he did here on Earth.

Thank you, SPC. Brandon K. Steffey for your service to this Nation. Individuals like you put your life on the line and sacrifice your lives for our freedoms. And it breaks my heart. I pray each day that the Lord our God will provide each and every one of our soldiers an Angel to watch over and protect them. It is the soldier that gives us freedom, not the politicians. Only two people ever died for our freedoms. One was Jesus Christ and the other was the American Soldier. The least I can do is pay homage and respect to this Hero and his family.
A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America “for an amount of up to and including my life.”
That is Honor.
To the family of this American Hero: We as a nation grieve with you in your loss. His adherence to “Duty to God and Country” will not be forgotten. Death is a time to rejoice in the life someone had and the lives they touched on this earth. Life is but a blink of an eye. May the Great Architect take this Hero and his family into his council, protect and heal them.

You don't have to love war, but you do have to love the Warrior!
