Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Kenward Hayes, USA WWII Veteran. May God help you though this difficult time and sorrow. He is one of America's Heroes that will never be forgotten.

Rest Safely and Securely in God's Loving Arms, Kenward.

Going home, going home,
I'm just going home.
Quiet-like, slip away-
I'll be going home.
It's not far, just close by;
Jesus is the Door;
Work all done, laid aside,
Fear and grief no more.
Friends are there, waiting now.
He is waiting, too.
See His smile! See His hand!
He will lead me through.

Morning Star lights the way;
Restless dream all done;
Shadows gone, break of day,
Life has just begun.
Every tear wiped away,
Pain and sickness gone;
Wide awake there with Him!
Peace goes on and on!
Going home, going home,
I'll be going home.
See the Light! See the Sun!
I'm just going home.

Post Mission Report – Cpl. Kenward Hayes, Castro Valley, CA/Dixon, CA

The PGR participated in an escort for Cpl. Kenward Hayes, Veteran, WWII, US Army, 8th Army Air Corps. The escort began at the Neighborhood Church in Castro Valley. No Flag Line was established at the church since Cpl. Hayes’ casket was already in the coach. Church services were held the night before. The church was only used as a gathering point for family and friends for the funeral procession to Dixon. The escort departed the church and continued on to the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon and arrived on time for the 1000 service. The PGR formed a Flag Line just prior to commencement of the service. Military Honors were rendered by an Air Force Honor Guard.

While the escort to Dixon was, for the most part, uneventful and a great ride, we somehow managed to get split up at the Martinez-Benicia Bridge toll plaza. Some of us took the HOV lane (it was about 0910, free HOV still good for another 50 minutes or so), while others went through the toll gates. You should have seen the look on Panak’s face! He and I found ourselves going past the gates in the HOV lane with no one behind us, wondering where everyone went. What a sight to see…….. a bunch of bikes crossing a bunch of lanes to get to the right-hand shoulder to regroup……kind of like ants. Fortunately, there wasn’t a lot of traffic. Watching for Jay, the coach driver, we successfully regrouped and proceeded on to Dixon without further “events”.

Prior to our departure for Dixon and at the conclusion of the service, family members and friends thanked the PGR members present, for the honor and respect they were shown. Mrs. Hayes, the wife of Cpl. Hayes, commented that her husband would have loved all the pomp, circumstance and ceremony. Family members approached us, indicating how thankful they were for our participation, and wanted to make a donation to the PGR. We were flattered and appreciative by their offer and gave them a business card referring them to the PGR website.

Acknowledgements - My thanks go to:

Moose Sweep
Dan and Howard Road Guards……….some of those transitions got pretty hairy, good job guys.

…………….and ultimately, to all of you who participated today. It was an honor for me to have the privilege of RC’ing this mission and riding with you. I thank you for your time and commitment to The Mission and to honoring the loss of our warrior brother, Cpl. Hayes.
