Army 73-79 I joined the Army to see the world and they stationed me 15 miles from home (Ft. Bragg) After holding the record for most transfer requests (aunt worked at Pentagon, I am the baby) Finally managed to get to Benning in 78
91C (equiv to LPN) sucked all the GI Bill I could before having to do actual work. Now work in sales with a publishing company
4 kids, son back in Iraq as of 19 August 2008, 7 grandkids, the pic is him and his daughter, the princess.
The PGR is important to me not just because of my son but also because of my brother-in-law He was in Vietnam 2 times and is a true hero. He had to get off the plane among shouts from protesters. Never again should our military be dishonored alive or dead.
My brother was a survivor from Pork Chop Hill, just discovered why every July no matter how long he had been sober he went on a world class bender. Pork Chop Hill was in JULY 1953 . My brother came home with a plate in his head and serious mental problems that never went away.
I ride every ride with respect to our heros. Sort of blew it off when my son asked me why our family had been in every way since the civil war with a "hey we can't get along with anyone" after a little education my answer is "because we are true Patriots, who love our country: and are willing to fight for our right to be free: It is not your job to die for your country it is your job to make someone die for their country.
I am learning a lot about military history and about my family history.
I raised a lot of hell with the government when Matthew was in Iraq last time about body armor and vehicle armor. This time my mission is two-fold.
1. it is bull crap that some people get sent back 3 and 4 times to Iraq or Afganistan while some never go. (this is Matt's second so this is not a selfish demand)
2. The Veterans Administration needs a serious overhaul, first get rid of everyone there who has not either served in the miliatary or had a CLOSE relative involved in a war.....plenty of qualified people out there.
