I, like many of us here in the PGR, did not serve in the military. I along with 8 of my friends tried to join after one year in Midwestern University. They took the other eight. Three went to Nam and all came back. Three of my friends that joined later were not so lucky and I have always Honored their memory. In my case I am deaf in one ear and blind in the other. My brother was in the Korean War and my son spent 9 years in the Navy and was in the Pentagon when it was bombed on 9/11. My son-in-law is a pilot in the 7th Calvary, spent 11 months in Iraq and is going back in July 2008.
I now live in Madisonville, Republic of Texas and work as a pipe designer for an engineering firm in Houston, Texas. The one thing about this organization I have always wanted to ask is “Why did it take so long for us, as Americans, to wake up and see that something like this is needed”.
The sound of 200 people holding flags -- is deafening.
