It was truly a privilege to stand beside so many patriots to honor Cpl Cory Palmer, his family and community.

The local group, (my apologies for not remembering your names) who led in singing of the songs and releasing the balloons was truly heart warming.

Thank you all for helping to make this a special day for the Palmer family.

The patriot volunteer, fighting for country and his rights, makes the most reliable soldier on earth.

It was truly an honor to be able to ride with all of you and most importantly, to ride for Cory Palmer and all of our men and women who have put themselves in harms way for each and everyone of us. Special thanks to Seaford Harley, the Seaford Police Department, and the Delaware State Police for allowing us and assisting us in doing what needed to be done.

To Cory's family and friends, your boy stood tall and made the ultimate sacrafice. For that he will always be a hero in the minds and hearts of every true American. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

This was my 1st mission and all I can say is WOW. I knew there would be a strong showing but nothing like this. I'm so proud to be an AMERICAN and I know the family appreciated it. I want to thank Seaford Harley for the friendly welcome and the town of Seaford for accepting us. The Fire Hall also for putting out such a nice spread for us. Thanks to all. Semper Fi.

I have been a biker since 1948 & was very impressed with the PGR members.
I joined your ranks yesterday.
Go to http://www.oohrah.net/ & look for the link for Cory Palmer.
Read the 'readme1st' file & it will explain how to download photos.
Also, the program is ther in pdf format for anyone who did not get one.

To all who attended on Sunday. I had the distinct pleasue to talk to a reporter who works for the online publication "delawareonline-The News Journal". Her name is Kristin Harty, and has, in my opinion, captured what the PGR stands for, and who we are.

She has written two reports about the Palmer mission, and I think they should be read. Clears things up for those of us who had heard about the ruckus at Gateway Park.

There was an inaccurate article by Joe Rogalsky in the Delaware State News.
http://www.newszap.com/articles/2006/05/22/dm/central_delaware/dsn01.txt
I sent the following to the Newspaper (soundoff@newszap.com) & the Writer (jrogalsky@newszap.com).
================================================================
In an article published May 21, 2006, by Joe Rogalsky of the Delaware State News it states, ”Passing motorists beeped their horns and hundreds of motorcycle riders, many members of the veterans group Patriot Guard Riders, drove by revving their engines to drown the church members’ messages.” The article was about the protest at the Palmer Funeral in Seaford, Delaware, and one would assume from the article the Patriot Guards Riders were at the protest.

I and over 600 members of the Patriot Guard Riders and other Motorcycle groups attended the Funeral of Marine Cpl. Cory Palmer on Sunday May 21, 2006. The riders assembled at the Seaford Harley Davidson Dealership early in the afternoon. Our Motorcycles were escorted by the Delaware State Police and the Seaford Police from the Dealership to the Seaford High and Middle School parking lots. From there, the riders walked to the St. John’s United Methodist Church on North Pine Street. Our Motorcycle ride and walk did NOT pass by the Protestors at Gateway Park at Front and High Streets. We stayed at the church for the duration of the funeral service, and stood at attention during the military honors and when Cory Palmer’s remains left the Church. We were greeted by the family with thanks and applauds.

The article is not only inaccurate, but once again propels the myth that “Bikers” are out of control. We do not like being called Bikers, because of the negative connotation. We are “Riders” who enjoy motorcycling. Had you come to the church, you would have seen the incredible sight of hundreds of “Riders”, many holding the America Flag. We went to pay our respect to the Palmer family, and did it with dignity, respect, and compassion.

Hello - I'm new to the PGR but know the mission statement very well. THANK YOU for ALL OF YOU for what you did for this young mans family.

I have a dear friend who heard about some problems that might occur and she was soooo amazed,

Well here is part of what she posted to our troop support/fallen heroghan group today:

How come we don't know more about the PGR,
now I know who those guys and gals were.
The 2 blocks before the church were full of people, but
you could hear a pin drop it was so quiet except for the flapping of the flags
that the people held in their hands.....and the big one hanging from a ladder of a firetruck..

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING THIS VERY IMPORTANT FAMILY..

I emailed one of the papers that wrote the articals this is her reply.

Michael,

The information I've received from the Seaford Police indicates that all of those arrested were residents of Seaford or area -- no members of Patriot Guard Riders. In fact, the Patriot Guard was set up at a different location entirely -- outside the church.

I've written a short follow up that will appear in tomorrow's paper listing the names, charges, etc. of those arrested.

Thanks for the note.
Kristin

It is very important that it is known that it was NOT any of the PGR.

Fellow PGR, and all other groups (and anyone that I may have missed) that attended CPL Palmers' service in Seaford, De. yesterday.  I am lost for words, I was not expecting the amount of people to show up that did.  It warms my heart to know that there is a such an immense show of respect form our fellow countrymen and women for a fallen hero.   Some travelled from as far as Tennesse I was told, Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and I think New Jersey too.  All were well represented.    Amazing, awesome, I am still on an emotional high from what transpired yesterday.  I had my co - workers asking me if I was allright.  I said "never better".  I just wish what was present yesterday was in the hearts and minds of everyone around the world.  Respect for everyone around you regardless of origin.  Another shining example of why I am grateful and proud to be a part of the PGR.  Day in and day out  I hear of great things happenning with the PGR.
Take care and be safe

Thank you for your support yesterday at Cpl. Palmer's funeral. You guys came - some from great distances - to honor this young Marine, and I salute you all. Unfortunately, due to who we are and what we have chosen to do, it's on to the next mission for young Rick James, also of Seaford. The UG's have filed for and have been granted a permit to do what they do yet again in Seaford. We will not be concerned, because the City of Seaford has placed them in a place again far away from the church. Please check the thread for Rick James for further updates. Everyone get a good night's sleep!

Someone better tell them that they need to get that news out as more then just a note in the paper, there is a news story on the WEB using that account from Fox News.  I am not posting the URL, but it is up today, right now, and I just looked at it, and to the casual reader, it could be taken the wrong way...

I just heard the story on the news.  You should all be commended!  You all remembered why we are there...and whom we are there for!  CONGRATULATIONS!  I'm so proud to be a part of this wonderful PGR Family!  It had to have taken great restraint to not be pulled in to the games.  But you did it!  I'm in AWE!  GREAT JOB! AND GOD BLESS each and every one of you!

Perhaps we should discuss this on a different thread so not to add to anyone's grief. I just spoke with my friends at/nearest the top at Fox News, and since this is an AP (Associated Press) article, it is up to AP to make the correction first and other news sources will follow. However, folks at Fox News NOW know that the article is misleading regarding PGR and any alleged conflicts (i.e. hudreds of fictitious revving motorcycles), that occured at the park, and are trying to help remedy the truth. They mean well, but just took the AP news release verbatim, as most news groups do. But remember...it is still not about us...it is about our fallen heros.

We all did a great job dealing with our emotions, remaining focused on our mission, standing firm by Cpl. Palmer's side as invited guests by and for his family. None of this should detract from the honor and respect we have for this hero. This was his day, we are his people. I will forget all about the wackos, but never shall I forget the heros that keep us free.

*Of course, writing to AP by anyone who cares enough to clarify the situation also might help, in addition to the nice phone call they are about to get from me! The Truth is the truth, no matter which "version" someone tries to serve us. As true patriots, We know this in our hearts. I am priviledged to be a member of the PGR family, and eternally grateful for brave Americans like Cpl. Cory L. Palmer. God bless the USA and all who rise to defend her!

I am only going to mention this very briefly here (because it's not the correct forum for it), and only to help out the Associated Press who is getting a deluge of calls.  The original story written by the Associated Press on Monday, May 22, 2006, does not mention the Patriot Guard Riders.  Any story mentioning us, and alluding to our involvement in anything other than standing by the family to show Honor and Respect, has been modified by the publishing news agency -- not the Associated Press.

Palmer family, please forgive this discussion here.  Folks, please direct any further discussion of this issue to another forum and not here.

It was indeed an honor to ride and stand for Cpl. Cory L. Palmer! It's still tough seeing the sorrow on the faces of the family and friends. I just hope that GOD is with them all in their time of need.

It was real special to receive the welcome we did by VFW, American Legion, Marines, friends and locals of Seaford.

I also had the privledge of leading a group of bikes down from the Del. Mem. Bridge. We got to the dealership at about 12:30 and the place was already packed with hundreds more on there way. What great support from the area!

Thanks everyone.

RIP Cpl. Cory L. Palmer. My condolences to the family and friends!

At Arlington Cemetary Burial

'Today We Add One More Hero'

By Stephanie McCrummen

Washington Post Staff Writer

Tuesday, May 23, 2006; B03

Once again, a line of shiny sedans and limousines pulled up to Section 60 of Arlington National Cemetery, where five long rows of fresh white tombstones have marched across the green grass since the beginning of the Iraq war more than three years ago.

Yesterday, the procession, the 235th at Arlington, bore the cremated remains of a 21-year-old from Seaford, Del., Marine Cpl. Cory L. Palmer, who was wounded when his Humvee was hit by an explosive near Fallujah on May 1, according to his local newspaper, the (Wilmington) News Journal.

He died of his injuries May 6 on the way to a hospital in San Antonio, where his parents, Charles and Danna Palmer, were waiting to greet him, the paper said.

Their son is one of 2,457 U.S. military personnel to die in Iraq, according to the Defense Department.

He was assigned to the 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

On Sunday, Palmer's memorial service in Seaford was chosen apparently at random for a protest by members of a Baptist church from Topeka, Kan., who believe that soldiers are dying in Iraq because of the United States' embrace of homosexuality, but they were drowned out by a larger counter-protest of people shouting "USA! USA!," honking from passing motorists and more than 1,000 locals who came to support Palmer's family.

Yesterday's ceremony at Arlington was nothing but calm.

Palmer's military service qualified him for standard honors, which included a coffin team, a firing party and a bugler to play taps.

And so, just after 1 p.m. on a blustery, cool day, the gentle and quiet rituals began for the young man who played varsity soccer his senior year in high school, who was a "fun, loving guy" on his second tour in Iraq.

A white-hatted, white-gloved Marine saluted the box carrying Palmer's remains as it was lifted out of a car. Three Marines carried the box to the waiting grave, then unfolded an American flag above it. Palmer's mother, father, other relatives and friends -- more than 100 in all -- followed across the grass.

It was difficult to hear what was said at Palmer's graveside, but the words included "victory" and "hero." A Navy chaplain referenced the Vietnam and World War II memorials nearby and said of Marines such as Palmer, "It will be years before we realize the significance of their sacrifice.

"Today we add one more hero who died so we can live free," he said. "A man of honor, a man of courage, a man of commitment."

The crowd prayed then, and a line of Marines tilted their rifles and fired three shots into the sky in salute. A bugler played taps, and off to the side, a few people there to visit other graves stood at attention and watched.

The honor guard folded the flag again and gave it to Master Sgt. Barry Baker, who dropped to his knee and presented it to one of Palmer's two brothers. He took off a white glove to shake hands with Palmer's mother, father and several others seated on the front row, and then, it was over.

Thank you for sharing that article. Once again I sit here with tears streaming down my face. My heart breaks for this family as it does for each one who must go on without their loved ones by their side.

The ultimate of sacrifices paid by one so young, so vibrant.

Cpl. Cory Palmer, Rest In Peace.

A Marine Mom from MD

I saw on another site Legacy.com where Cory's mother took the time to thank those who had signed the online guestbook dedicated to her son. It amazes me the grace, eloquence and faith that was reflected in her words. If you have time to visit it and leave a note, she will surely see it.

All, a few heartfelt words from a Marine that was in one of the two lines of Marines as we approached the church in Seaford.  Although it is addressed to me, it is directed to the whole group.

Be safe

Dear Corey,
This was a sad & difficult day for Cpl Palmer's family and friends.  Even so,  I
hope that God allows me to remember today for the rest of my life.  Along with
six or seven other Marines, I was at the turn in the street where hundreds upon
hundreds of Patriot Guard Riders passed by on their march to the front of the
church to celebrate Cpl Palmer's life & service to his country.
You know that they began shaking our hands & thanking us for our service to the
nation & to them.  How humbling to be one of the recipients of such intense
affection and pride!  The bright & sometimes tear-filled eyes, the firm
handshakes from strong men, the thousands of flags, being called "Gunny" again &
again & again.  And with each encounter, "Thank you, thank you!"
Of course, I knew that they really wanted to thank Cpl Palmer, but they
couldn't.
I tried to look each of them in the eye as they passed and thank them for coming
to support Cpl Palmer's family and, by extension, us.

Sure I'm proud that I am a Marine, but I'm more proud that I am an American.  I
am part of a nation that produced people like I met today.  This is the stock
from which I have sprung:  a people who will go to the other side of the world
and sacrifice so that others may experience freedom.  I've lived in other parts
of the world & there is simply no people like us.

I looked America in the eyes today & it was beautiful to behold.  I'm proud to
wear this uniform, but it makes me no better than anyone else on earth.  It is a
privilege to serve people like the ones you brought my way today:  wonderful,
amazing, loving Americans.  I'm no hero, but I am an American, just like all the
others I met today.

Corey, God's blessings be upon you folks, you will not be forgotten,

~Gunnery Sergeant Brian T. Houser, USMC  Reserve (Wilmington, DE unit)
