I thank the Wall family for the invitation, it was an honor to attend. This was my second mission, I am so proud to be a member of this organization. The people of Alden did a great job of making us welcome and helping us make this mission a success. The law enforcement officers perfromed thier difficult duty in a very professional manner; I respect them and pray for their safety. I would also like to thank those that took command and organized this event for making it a great day.
As I read the other post and reflect on the day; I pray like you that someday the protesters will get a clue and stop. I also pray the Patriot Guard will stay together to bring our fallen heroes in uniform to their final duty station in heaven with honor and respect for a long time after that. |

This was my first mission with the PGR. The whole experience, including writing this note, chokes me up but also fills me with more life and pride than I have ever known. I'm not a vet, but having met so many on Saturday, I now know why we have the freedoms we have and I am eternally grateful. May God bless each and everyone of the PGR, Sgt. Wall's family and all the wonderful people of Alden, IA. who made me feel like I just found my second home.

Ssgt. Wall's mission was my fifth in five different states. Every one has been different and yet identical. Three of them have involved the UGs. The UGs have changed from using megaphones to their "silent protest" at Alden, IA. To echo an earlier post maybe they will get the message and just go away. When I am able to not shed tears at the sight of the flag draped coffin I will have met one of my personal goals for joining the PGR. I continue to be proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with my brothers and new friends to display the respect that these soldiers, sailors and marines deserve. I will see some of you at the next mission. In the meantime, please post pics so we can all share the memories of this honorable event. This is a good thing that we have chosen to do.

| I would post some pics, but they would stretch the board. Should I resize them and post them smaller, or just go ahead and post full-size? |

My Brothers, I am touched by the outpouring of patriotism and love shown by this mission. I only regret that due to circumstances beyond my control, I could not be with you. As mentioned by many of you already, I also hope and pray that NO other missions need to be undertaken, but I stand at the ready for each and every one that arises. May God richly bless each of you and especially the family of SSGT Wall.

A message from Tom Weller, SE MN PGR Ride Captain,
To the Minnesota Patriot Guard Riders,
I want to thank all of you who rode in support of SSG. Walls mission to Alden, IA on Saturday May 6, 2006.
Thank you for a safe ride. The success of our mission is lessened if one person is hurt or worse on a mission ride.
Thank you for our patients. These missions are tough to plan and dynamic in their execution. Your demonstrated patients, adaptability and commitment to the mission are what make it all possible.
Thank you for the way you conducted yourselves around the ug’s. As hard as it is to be around those people you all maintained your personal integrity and discipline. Well done.
Thank you for your mental and physical toughness. It was 33 degrees when we left Rochester, warming to a balmy 34 degrees when we left Albert Lea, with 90 miles left to ride. Not once did I hear any talk of giving up and turning back. I only heard good humored acceptance of the challenge ahead and a singular desire to complete the mission.
Thank you for the sheer numbers that turned out to support this mission. I believe we had 24 bikes and four cages. Numbers make a difference on these missions. The more PGR members we have at the service, the more flags we fly, and the more of both we place between the family and the protesters the better.
Emotionally these missions are tough. For me emotions go into a box that was stashed in the garage under the work bench behind the battery charger. I have been forced to confront those emotions and deal with them. The sadness at the loss of a brother in arms, the sorrow felt for a family who has lost a son, daughter, husband, wife, mom or dad. Extreme anger and contempt at protestors that would insult a fallen soldier, harass a family in their most difficult hour, and desecrate our flag. I’m learning to deal with those emotions. I hope it makes me a better husband, father, and man.
I have only done two support missions for the PGR. I don’t want to do any more, but I fear that more missions are in my future. I ask for your help and support in future missions.
To all of you that rode with me last Saturday, stand a little taller, hold your head a bit higher, and know that what you did on that day made a difference to a grieving family and a small town in Iowa. I was proud, honored and humbled to ride with you all.

This was my first mission, it will not be my last (wish that it were...). This past Saturday we Welcomed home another fallen Hero. I think our presence brought some comfort to the Wall family and Alden,IA. I think it showed them, that our Men & Women in uniform TRULY mean something to us.
I was very moved by this experience, I don't recall how many times I had to FIGHT back the tears. This experience will never be forgotten!
To any that have requested copies of pictures, I'll e-mail a zip file (<3 meg) to you if your address was posted, these are the same pictures posted in the photo gallery. Look for an e-mail from me.
BTW... I want to Thank ALL of you...You've shown me that their are still people in this country that believe in whats right! Thank You!

| My mother, aunt and uncle spent most of their childhood in Alden, Iowa. My aunt spoke today with one of her childhood friends who still lives in Alden in a retirement home across the street from the Methodist church where the funeral was held. Gloria told my aunt of a sight she had never, in her life, seen before. So many young folks who displayed a respect, care and concern for one of their lost sons that went above and beyond. She told my aunt that Reverend Bob, who officiated at the funeral, was in tears the next morning as he described the day's events to his congregation. The congregation was shocked to hear that most of you had never even know the soldier and had ridden from other states to pay your respect. They had little idea of who the protesters were and were absolutely appalled at what they had done. Now, I know, that this isn't about us but I just wanted to say thanks to all of you who attended. I wanted you to know that you have made an everlasting impression on a town that is very dear to me. I grew up spending my summers in that little town and my mom is buried there. I am so proud of all of you that attended. |
