Just got back online -- blame Charter Cable -- after losing the internet right before I left for Altamont yesterday. Thanks, all, for letting me tag along. Still having some computer issues but I'll post a few pictures from Tuesday where you can see them later. I haven't taken time to read through the new things on the thread yet so I may have more to say later. Rose cautioned me not to post any pictures that made PGR look like some sort of "biker gang." I told her if you're a biker gang it's one I'd be proud to associate with any time, any where. Good Lord wililn' and the creek don't rise I'll see you Friday morning.

I attended the arrival of Chris Donaldson and his family on Wednesday night in Effingham and was more than proud to see the # of riders who came out for support of this man and his family.  Your organization is truly incredible!

We are sorry to hear about the protestors coming to Mr. Donaldson's funeral on Friday but are more than happy to know you will be there as well to show your support.

Way to go PGR!!! Keep up the fantastic job!!!

I am planning on being there Friday, but I will be cutting it close on the staging time.  No available sitters, so I will leave as soon as I get my son on the school bus.  Also, I will be bringing 3 extra flags with me if anyone needs one.

If the Effingham Police Department doesn't already have a 200 foot tape measure, I'm sure one of us would be happy to provide one.

Sounds like it was a great escort and thank the Lord for the bill that was signed! I'll be heading out in the morning and plan on being there for the entire visitation Thursday night and the funeral Friday. Is anyone meeting before the visitation or are we just going to be at the funeral home around that time? It will take me a while to find it, knowing me! I'm coming from 64 westward and then straight up 130. Can anyone give me a general direction of which way to go when I get to Effingham from 130? If I can't find it, I'll be calling you Jace.LaCaze!

LadyRanger: 130 intersects IL 33 at Newton. Turn west (actually NW) on 33. Someone set me straight if plans have changed but the last I knew we were planning to assemble at a BP station (truck stop?) right on 33. I'll either be ahead of you or behind you on 33 from Newton to Effingham.

Has the staging area for Friday been set? It would be a lot simpler to find lodging Thursday night if we would know where we will have to assemble Friday morning. At the top of this forum it says that the site has yet to be determined. If I missed it, which I could very easily have done so, please tell this 65 year old Harley rider how to get to it from I-57 coming from Chicago. Thanks,

Arnie

Effingham County Sheriff John Monnet said he received a call from the protesters after the law was signed that they would still be coming but would obey the law and stay outside the 200-foot parameter.

Monnet said the general public should simply ignore the protesters.

“As difficult as it may be, we need to let their negative comments fall on deaf ears, let their written messages go unseen, turn a shoulder to their negative actions,” the sheriff said. “If we ignore them, they have lost. If we fall prey to their tactics, they will win and that will dishonor Christopher.”

As posted Wed Morning. Route 33 near the intersecton of Route 32 at 9:00 on Friday, May 19.
We were advised by the state police to congregate after the construction zone on 33.

I have secured the permission of the manager of the BP plaza on Route 33 on Lake Sarah Road (AKA Louie’s Landing). There is are 2 entrances to the plaza, one on route 33 and one on Lake Sarah Rd. The entrance on Sarah Rd is the best because no gravel. We will congregate near the car wash area of the plaza at 9:00 AM and briefing then kickstands up. Briefing to follow there. No police escort will take place for the mile trek to the Catholic Church parking lot. Park tight. You will have a little hiking to do with those flags. We will be told where to stand with pride for Chris.

I plan to depart Chatham and arrive down route 32.

Thank you for the map and directions. I just joined today and this will be my first mission. I have read all of the messages in the newbie section. After 20 years in the AF I have never seen this kind of support for our soldiers and their families. I would be proud to ride with you folks. Can I just show up Friday Morning at the BP Plaza? Rose I live near Champaign any chance you would be coming past here so I might follow the group to Effingham?

I spoke with a State Trooper who is on the planning committe and the protesters have been granted a spot on the highway right-of-way 200 ft from the church. We will need all the flags we can get to create a curtain to sheild the famliy. I can give details Friday morning. If anyone gets lost they can call my cell, 217-821-1386 and I will bring you in. No official meeting has been set for Thursday but Friday some folks are meeting at the local Harley dealer at 0830 and the Patriot Guard riders are meeting at the BP gas station just east of Shumway at 0900. Dave has opened an invitation to meet for breakfast at 0700 at The Flying J Truckstp at exit 160.

130 at the Newton stop light turn left-west on 33, go about 25 miles to the first stop light in Effingham ( Fayette Ave) turn left- west go to the next light (3rd st) turn right-north, through town to the next light and turn left-west on Evergreen, cross the tracks and go about a block to 4th st and turn right-north and the funeral home will be on your right. Call if you get lost, 217-821-1386.

Arnie, the Hampton Inn, Best Western Raintree, and the Comfort Inn have all offered special rates to the Patriot Guard Riders. The motels are off I57/70 at exits 159 and 160. Effingham is a small town and you can easily get to were you need to be from any of these motels.

Bill,
The assembly location for Friday is just east of Shumway a few miles at the BP gas staion on Hwy 32-33. From the 160 Exit in Effingham , go west about 2-3 miles and the BP will be on your left. If you are a real early riser, we are meeting for breakfast at the Flyin J Truckstop at 0700 at exit 160. The directions I gave Lady ranger are for the the funeral home and the visitation on Thursday.

A question for some of the Law Enforcement people up that way...

According to the mail Chris Brocksmith sent out announcing the governor had signed the Let Them Rest In Peace Act:
[T]he “Let Them Rest in Peace Act,” requires protesters to stay at least 200 feet away from family and friends as they mourn soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Are we not friends of the diceased? Shouldn't the protestors have to stay 200 feet from our perimeter? Just sayin'.
