Hagger,

Thanks for the suggestion, but I think we'll stick with the original plan for the North Metro riders and head down 169 to 62 east to 55/52. Especially since I already eluded to arriving at locations along the way and times we'd likely be there, if anyone wanted to hook up with us on the way. We'll hook up with you in Inver Grove.

Anyone needing to know our route and time, see my earlier post under North Metro Staging

MISSION COMPLETE

We have said our farewells to Adam. We had really good weather and a very good turn out. We were blessed with 230 bikes from WI, IL, IA, and MN. All these patriots who came out to show their respect and support for the family and friends of Adam

I can't say enough nice things about the people I met and who came along way, including riding through the night to be here when we needed them. I'd like to Thank everyone who took part in this mission. It was a pleasure to work with the ride captain, Henry Lange. I'd really like to Thank the Onalaska Police department, La Crosse Area HD, Stansfield Vending, and Panera Bread for the staging area, coffee, pastries, and the officers from Onalaska who were willing to work everything out with us.

A special Thank You to the Army recruiter who came in early this morning and offered to pay for the coffee for everyone. We couldn't have pulled this all together with out the support and guidance of the state and local Ride Captains from the MN delegation. Thanks so much and especially Jim.

I hope I didn't forget anyone. One thing I did forget was the address of the rider who wanted to give me his address. Please send it to my address at:

dadeters2@aol.com

Thank you again to everyone. I hope I don't have to see you again soon, but I hope I get to see you again.

Dave just about says it all except for thanking Dave. He was intrumental to the success of this mission. Everyone's cooperation was great, even with a "plan" that seemed to never last more the 5 minutes before changing. Everybody that I talked to were most impressed with the PGR. Everyone did a great great job at showing honor to Adam and his family. May they find some small consolation from us.

BTW, watch for Dave on News Channel 19 at 1800 and 2200. I made him do the interview 'cause he's the good lookin' one.

Thank You Dave and Henry for an exceptional job.  With every change in the time table, someone walked the line and made sure everyone was kept informed.  Another person on my list is the Chaplain from Minnesota (whose name I didn't hear) who offered up a prayer to start us out and she continued serving us by hauling cases of water up and down a long flag line for hours.  And one last Thank-you for whoever brought the small flags.  I grabbed a handful and there were quite a few small future PGR members who stood proudly holding "their very own flag" when the procession went by. We made a difference today.

Another job well done folks! These missions will never cease to amaze me (though I do hope they CEASE soon). What a warm and wonderful welcome from the good folks of Onalaska. From the coffee, donuts, etc to all the folks who came to join us in honoring Airman Servais today, and what a strange coincidence that the Legion would be holding their community festival today.....how welcome were we made to feel there?

Each mission brings a new memory that I will hold forever, and I know I will never forget the emotions that swept over me as family, friends and community members solemnly walked from the church to the cemetary amidst our sea of flags, and the grief stricken and sad folks who so quietly whispered "Thank You" through their tears. I hardly feel deserving of their thanks.

John says a lot when he said "We made a difference today"

God Bless You All!

Just got back to St. Paul.  This was my second mission with the Patriot Guard.  I can not say it enough as to how well these missions seem to come together.  It was humbling to be able to pay deep respects to Airman Servais and his family.

26 Aug 2006 7:34 PM Alert

I made it back to Hubertus Wis safe and without any rain drops on me.  It was a great honor for me to be able to pay my respects to this fallen American hero.  I was very impressed with the way every thing worked out and I thought everything went well.  I still have the faces of Adams family and friends in my mind as they walked past us.  I would like to personally thank those patriots that came from Minnesota, coming here to Wisconsin to help us out with this mission.  I saw and talked with some friends that I have met at previous messions and made some new friends.

One final thought, after the ceremony at the cemetery, one of the Air Force personel came around to shake our hands.  He was a full bird colonel and as he shook my hand I thanked him for his sevice and he said to me "I thank you and your group for what you do, this is what America is , this is the United States of America what you are showing us here today with your flags and your support",  I guess that says it all....

God bless you Adam and your family..........

This was our first mission. We live about 25 miles North of Madison and the trip North was so worth it. We would do it again in a hearbeat. What a showing and how impressive to see all those showing their respect for those who put their lives on the line for us every day. It is beyond words. It is something I will see and talk about for a long time. To see Adam's parents and relatives go through that line was simply heart wrenching. And to have most all of the military personnel there give us a personal thank you...what can I say? We are glad we joined on the advice of one of our friends who is a member and we will be at any mission we can from here on out.

I was at the funeral today for senior airman Adam Servais in Onalaska, who was killed in a skirmish with Taliban extremists in Afganistan on August 19th. My son is married to Adam's sister, Laura. There were about 50 Air Force personnel including senior masters, numerous brass, and two generals. After we left the service it was a block walk to the cemetery. The enire route was lined with Patriod Guard Riders holding American flags. What an outstanding tribute to this fallen hero who today received the bronze star for his actions on the day of his death, saving the lives of others.

When we got back to the church for a luncheon I spoke with one of the senior master sargeants. He was stunned at the level of support from the community of Onalaska. And he was deeply moved by the flag tribute from the Patriot Guard. He and I'm sure all of the military, and Adam's family, were deeply honored by what you did today. It was one of the finest displays of patriotism I have ever witnessed in my life, and I was in the air force during the Vietnam era.

You did your country and your military proud today Patriot Guard Riders. My personal salute to you. May God continue to protect you for the loyalty and love you have shown for one who died so that we will continue to live freely, and without fear from terrorists.

Here is the link for the News Channel 19 interview with Dave. I just watched it on TV and it was very good. They may post a video later.

And I would also mention that when some of our members noticed that a flag flying from a bank along the route was damaged by the recent storms and was not flying properly, the bank, which only had two older ladies doing window service,  called in their maintenance man to take it down, fix the lanyard and put up a new flag. Good eyes and good job!!

I commend everyone that participates in the Patriot Guard Riders. My prayers go out to Adam's family as I live in Onalaska and this news has hit me hard. Adam graduated with my son and can not imagine what the family is going through. I saw the news tonight and was so grateful for what you do. My prayers go out to Adam's family. They have been in my thoughts and prayers since I heard the news a week ago. They are such a special family and my deepest sympathy goes out to them. I pray that they can go on with their lives and be strong although it is going to be a long road. I will pray for them for a very long time especially that Adam's birthday is coming up. There are people in this world that complain about the little things in life and they do not have a clue on what really matters. Adam, you have made a great mark in many people's lives and God must have needed you more than we do. Rest in peace young man and please know there are a lot of people that will miss you so very very much and know you are one of the best that God has created.

To residents of Onalaska,

Thank you for your gratious hospitality and assistance in allowing the opportunity to honor your son.  It was nice to see so many of you take the time to come out and pay tribute and show your respect for American Hero Servais. A special thank you to klbenz and Pastor Lauren Ley for your kind words. There are many different reasons why PGR's across this country do what they do. One common thread is to make a difference through showing honor and paying respect. Your words are haertfelt and greatly appreciated by all of those that rode from many different locations. Thank you.

PGR's,

Once again you amaze me. Many of you got up before 3:00 to jump on and ride from all over the region with one purpose in mind. Respect. Mission accomplished. From Henry Lange, to Dave Deter, To Diane Kinney, To Nic & Paula to Alena & Dave.... You guys "get it" and in doing so along with 200+ others, this is what allows this amazing thing to happen. It is each of you and yesterday was prove positive that one person can make a difference. I was proud to stand side by side with each and every one of you.

To that sole overpass flagwaver on 90 near Stewartville, MN in the early morning,

You made our morning. The vision of you standing there proudly with your bright orange shirt, waving that flag from side to side on an overpass that blended with every other one. We could see your smile as we passed under, your pride, your enthusiasm, you made a difference and I for one doubt I will ever forget the site. On behalf of MN PGR and myself, a heartfelt thank you.

Jim,

The thanks as well goes out to you and the rest of the PGR leadership, who give so much of your time to allow the rest of us the humbling opportunity to show our love and respect for our fallen heroes. I shared with someone last night that it is such a humbling experience to get up at 2:30 am, ride 150 miles and stand with 230 dedicated men and woman, to watch, and pray for, a community sending their dedicated child and friend into God's care. As a parent, I cannot imagine a more painful moment. But as a proud American, I can only say that it makes me a stronger patriot for my country and fellow American!

To Jim, Nate, Cooch, Monica and the rest of the gang... I'm glad you decided to join Dave and I on the trip home. It was such a beautiful ride to complete a flawless mission, and we were honored to ride with you! We hope you all made it home safe and managed to get a decent nights sleep. My thoughts were well occupied with the days events, and prayers for the family and friends of Airman Servais.

Just one more wish of God's blessings to the family and friends of Airman Servais. God always shows us that although the pain may subside over time, it is the riches of the relationships with our passed loved ones that shape who we are in the future.

God Speed, Ride Safe,

Alena

Thank you to all of the riders!!  I thought it was amazing.  As you were all standing with your flags, I took some pictures.  A lady driving by pulled over & told me that she thought it was amazing & wonderful that you folks do something like this.  I told her that I was not a part of it, but that I would pass it on.  What better forum than this message board.
Thank you again, so much.  A beautiful thing to witness here in my hometown, Onalaska.

Many thanks to the residents of Onalaska for allowing us to in roar into town to pay our respects to Adam, his family, and friends.  A special thanks to the LEO's who came to assist us and direct traffic.  It was heartwarming to see so many of the residents of the town come out to pay their respects; especially those with young children in strollers, the cute senior ladies who brought their chairs out to help stand watch, and the the several disabled veterans - one Korean War cruized 10 blocks in his motorized wheelchair to pay his respects.

Many thanks to the family of Sr Airman Servais for allowing us to come pay our respects.

To the other PGR leadership and members, thank you for organizing this mission, and for being there!
