Back home safe now. I hope all 125+ attending "riders" will also have a safe trip home. It was a great honor to be allowed to attend the services of this soldier and his family. Plus I have to say it was MIGHTY impressive to see the number of folks from Ennis and the surrounding area who lined the roadway thru town to the cemetary to pay their last respects to their fallen servicemember who passed by. I can only hope and pray that kind of respect catches on nation wide, small town or large. It was truly touching to see.

I can sure echo what CIWS has said about the local towns people turning out for their support. The first 6 months I was stationed in Dallas I was on the Honor Guard. Today was my first mission. I pretty much knew what to expect from the Honor Guard, the rifle salute, taps, etc. However, I was not prepared for the showing of local support and respect. Outstanding!

On another note, I noticed a lot of cameras there today. Don't really know why I didn't think to bring mine. Duh! Anyway, will those who took pictures be posting them here? Sure hope so. Would be nice to see some, especially if there were any taken of the ride to the cemetary with the local support.

More positive press for PGR!  I just caught the 10:00 WFAA, Channel 8 News report on this mission and it was very well done.  Our very own Bill Watkins is now a TV celebrity!  Thanks to all who made the trip to help us honor our local Soldier.  The family was obviously very touched by our presence, as was the City.  I was only able to make the funeral on my lunch break, but as always, it was an honor to stand as a Patriot with hundreds of good Friends.  May we never have another mission, but if we do, I'm glad to know who has my back.  Thanks again to all who made the ride on a hot Texas day, you couldn't have been a more beautiful sight!

Another mission complete

Aaron P. Latimer was laid to rest today in Ennis Texas with full military honors. The PGR was represented with 120 PGR bikers 4 cages for a total of about 130 people honoring this fallen hero.

In addition to the PGR, the citizens of Ennis came out in full force. The route was lined with thousands of people, young and old holding flags honoring their local hero. The area of town located in the immediate area was closed to all traffic. Aaron Latimer was well known and liked in the town and the fire department and police department showed up in full force as well as the Ellis County Sheriffs Dept and the Texas Highway Patrol honoring this young hero. The combined presence of all these people brought tears to my eyes, what a fine young man Aaron Latimer must have been.

The Latimer family is still in shock and morn the loss of their son, yet they stand tall and proud. They realize he is one of a few in a land of many who has made the ultimate sacrifice. President John Kennedy once said “Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country” Aaron P. Latimer has given his greatest gift, LIFE, and his name will go down in history with the many other soldiers before him. America is free and we experience the best of life and opportunity and we owe our thanks and gratitude to our sons and daughters Our American Soldiers.

The family and the city of Ennis thanked us several times for our attendance and give us a free rains for our activities.

When we arrived and parked our bikes prior to the service, members of the family and city officials immediately came over and begin to shake the hands of the PGR rides and thank them for attending.

The PGR helped bring home their local hero and the City of Ennis will never forget. I have received two phone calls this afternoon from people thanking us for being there.

The honor and respect shown at today’s service will help the families healing, they now realize there are people who really care.

I want to thank everyone who helped and especially restamom and Olympic girl for the water. The combined effort of all made mission a success.

Unfortunantly Saintsman and I were unable to attend Spc. Latimer's funeral today but our hearts were with he and his family.  We were so proud to see this video and how the PGR was represented in supporting the Latimer family.

Here is the link to the video of SPC. Latimer's funeral service.

Bill,

Excellent after-action report!  And I'd like to add my thanks for our "cager" members.  You mentioned Karen (restamom) and her daughter, Olympic Girl, and all the water they brought - many of us benefitted from their generosity.  And thank you, Bill, for trailering in those extra flags.  And we had CIWS and "MiataMan" (does this guy have a name???) who we've seen on other missions.

I've had people email me that they'd like to support our missions but they don't have a bike.  While it's true that the PGR started out as a "biker" effort, we've seen how our cagers can contribute.  It's all about honoring the fallen and their families.  How you get there in unimportant.

Thank you to all those who were able to ride this Mission.  God rest Spec. Latimer, and may He comfort the Latimer family.

Thank you, Soldiers Mom, for posting the link to the news story. It sends a strong message to those of us that could not be there to honor Spc. Latimer, our fallen HERO. I am so proud of him and his family, his community, and the Patriot Guard for doing the right thing.

Peace and Grace to all touched by this.

I think Miataman is a great handle.  Sounds like a sporty-super hero.  (I still don't see how you get in and out of that car.  It felt more like having a roller skate strapped to my rear.)

Good job, everyone.  Thanks for your service.  And thanks to the incredible people of Ennis, TX.  What a turnout!  Patriotism is alive and well in America, despite what you might read or see on TV.

Every PGR mission is special but a few things from this mission will stay with me for entirety, they are:

First was finding out Governor Perry signed the “No Protesting” bill the night before that went into effect that morning and the UG’s, who did show up, found out their permit has no longer valid. They made a long ride for nothing.

Second was the outstanding support the community showed when they lined the whole procession route with flags.

Last, but the one that touched me the most, was the young man who I saw coming down the line shaking everyPGR members hands as we were across the funeral home saying, “Thank you for coming” to each on us. When he shook my hand he added one more thing, “Thank you for coming to the services for my brother’”.

The mission for Spc Latimer is complete. Success beyond our hopes. The Guard stood tall and proud, honoring a fallen hero with all the respect due. Even with the high temperatures, the contingent stayed the course through out the ceremony. We were surprised during our roll to the cemetary, by a huge crowd of the citizenry of Ennis, who were flanking our parade route on both sides of the streets that led to the cemetary. Virtually, every citizen had an American flag to wave, as we rode slowly by. And, I do mean slowly. The body of Spc Latimer was being tranferred from the funeral home to the cemetary by caisson.  The city of Ennis should be proud of the statement made by these wonderful citizens by their show of respect and support to the Latimer family. Just when you think no one cares, the people of this small town rise up and confirm to us, that there are Americans out there that still repect and honor our service people.   Again, great job by my fellow Guard! I'm proud to ride with you all.
