To the Family of Greg Bowman

My sincere condolences and prayers. I could say many good things about this very good man, but most of all he was the kind of Man you want to be around. Tough as hell, yet kind and considerate of all around him. A truly class act.

I first met Greg 22 JUL 06, in Galesburg IL on the mission for PO1 Jerry Tharp.  Greg was on the Glass Door crew, along with his son and brother Mike, bogie, Big Joe and others.  Ed and Max came up and asked us to shield the doors, so the family would not see the UGs.

I found out later that day the folks handing out lunch to all takers in the Wal-Mart parking lot were his parents.  I remember Mom Bowman asked where I was from, and I told her Milwaukee.  She seemed surprised.  If there were more Bowmans there, I don't know.  But there were 330 PGR, 286 bikes on that mission, and it seemed like the Bowmans were everywhere.

Aside from his son snarfing the last bottle of water, they were great!

On the long and rather nasty ride home, I entertained myself by composing a funny post: How Many Bowmans Are There?

I found out shortly after there was one too few.  And now there are two.

While I did not know him as well as many that have posted, as SE WI SRC I had frequent contact with Greg coordinating missions and dealing with various things.  He has my utmost respect, and I consider him a friend.  As with many, I have found his loss difficult to deal with.

But as Greg knew very well, freedom is not free, and the mission must continue.  As much as I would like to be in Princeton, I will be in Spring Grove IL.  But I will be standing not just for Cpl. Keith A. Nurnberg, but for Greg, the Bowman family, and the entire IL PGR.  And I will not be alone.  There are many of us that feel exactly the same way.  We will stand so you can mourn your own.

I cannot possibly express how sorry I am for your loss.  To Greg's family, the Bowmans and the IL PGR, please take heart in knowing that he is in a much better place.  Greg was far too fine a man not to be.  Please take care of yourselves, and know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Greg: you may stand down, we have the watch.  I will see you in the flagline.

It is with heavy heart I add my condolences to the family and many friends of Greg Bowman. On July 4th, Ohio lost Rod Foley, a highly dedicated PGR member, Vietnam veteran and close friend. So I understand what your going through right now. Hold your head up with pride to have been called a friend by someone as wonderful as Greg apparantly was. Someone so giving of his time, so unselfish and caring of others. You all are lucky to have known him. I only wish I had. My prayers and best wishes to the family. May God grant you peace. Unable to attend but sending my thoughts your way.

My most heartfelt prayers and sympathies go out to the family, friends and fellow Patriot Guard Riders who knew and were close to Senior PGR Ride Captain, Greg Bowman. Although we never met, it is apparent from the seven pages of posts on this thread that Greg was very well known and loved and he will not soon be forgotten. To all who mourn Greg's passing; May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the comfort of the Holy Spirit keep your hearts until the day of the glad reunion with loved ones who have gone on before to be with the Lord.

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth , nor any other created thing , shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. - Romans 8:38-39.

Thank you for your service. The PGR will sorely miss a very fine person. May God bless and comfort your family and friends at this time.

'No Greater Love is this that a man is willing to lay down his life for another.' Only two men were willing to sacrifice their lives for us-Jesus Christ and the American Soldier. Neither of which can ever fully be repaid.

Thank you for your Service and my Freedoms. Your sacrifices will never go unnoticed. I am grateful to live in a country made up of volunteers like you. Your choice to protect our Nation and put your self on the line can never be repaid.

                                                      ***Attention All P.G.R. Members***

  I have secured a P.G.R. flag for any and all P.G.R. members who wish to sign it so that it may be presented to the Bowman family.

  I of course will have it available at Greg's visitation from 2:30p.m. - 8:00p.m. on Friday at:
                                                      Norberg Memorial Home (Staging Area)
                                                      701 E. Thompson
                                                      Princeton, IL

  For those of you who may not be able to make it to Princeton this weekend, I will also bring the flag along to the visitation today for Pvt. Shelton from 1:30p.m. - 9:00p.m. at:
                                                      Sax-Tiedemann Funeral Home (Staging Area)
                                                      9568 Belmont Ave.
                                                      Franklin Park, IL

  Now, I very much wanted to accommodate the members in the WI area and have the flag available at the services for Cpl. Nurnberg.  However, even his arrival into Waukegan's airport at this point is undetermined and in fact it is possible that the services may need to be delayed.
I am being kept up-to-date on the current status of this mission and if anything changes and I can make it there, I will keep you informed.

                                                                       Many Thanks To You All For Your Understanding,

Our heartfelt sympathy and condolences goes out to the family and friends of Senior PGR RC, Greg Bowman. Greg and the Bowman family are in the thoughts and prayers of PGR across the Nation. His choice to unselfishly serve to honor and respect the heroes and their families at their time of need has now come full circle with the PGR and local community ready to stand for this great man and to keep him in their memory and in their thoughts.

Thank you Greg for all you have done to honor others. You will not be forgotten! Rest in peace brother!

It was a great honor and privilge to have met, rode, befriended Greg. We don't know why.  We don't know what tomorrow holds but we know who holds tomorrow.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

1: To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3: A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4: A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5: A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace,    and a time to refrain from embracing;
6: A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7: A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8: A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

Have a Blessed Day with Jesus.

I'm saddened to hear that we've lost one of our PGR brothers. I never met you, but from what I've read on this thread, you are a great American and will be sorely missed. You set the example for us to follow. Your service on earth has ended, but I believe that you will have a new mission. Comforting and welcoming our fallen soldiers into God's kingdom.

I have known Greg for seven months and stood with him seven times.

Landeck (Wheaton) February

Kim (Orland Park) March

Zizumbo (Elsdon) March

Hugo’s four corners in April

Lill (Bridgeport) July

Lancaster (Stockton) August

Brodnick (New Lenox) September

Over that period I have taken his photograph 55 times.  Those 55 are here.  (After you select an image, click on “Full size” (in the upper-right corner) to see the full 2400 by 1800 pixel resolution.)  Most show the weight of the mission on his face – I wish I had more of his easy smile.

Given the time change to the mission since the original post regarding the Quad Cities area rally point in LeClaire, has that meeting time also changed?  Right now I plan on coming as far as the Quad Cities on Friday evening after work so I can be there early on Saturday, and I'd like to go over to Princeton with ya'll if that's ok.
