The housing offer still stands, even up through Thursday evening the22nd! I've copied and pasted the previous post... "I realize that this is late notice for some but if people need housing in the Breezewood area I can help with free overnight housing. I live in Altoona which is about 25 - 30 minutes from Breezewood. Route 220/99 is 3/10's of a mile from my house, I can see it out my front window. Here's the offer, I can put 3 at my house and/or a whole bunch next door at the church. The drawback at the church is that there is no shower just four large bathrooms. Sleeping arrangements at the church would be sofa's and cots, bedding will be provided. A full kitchen on premises and many resturaunts are very close. The church is over 65,000 square feet with over 70 rooms so we could accomodate quite a few. Bikes can be parked inside the gym."
Anyone wanted to do a logistics study from Altoona to Breezewood.... Calvary Baptist Church 810 Ruskin Drive Altoona PA 16602

| My deepest condolences to the family of PFC Ross McGinnis. As I read of the bravery and selfless heroism that took his life, I was truly humbled. Ross truly gave his own life so that others could have theirs. It will be a great honor to stand by as this young hero is laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. Ross was truly a man among men. He is a real hero. |

Mission update to honor Spc. Ross McGinnis:
The following information is being provided to update you on the progress of this mission. Please note, this is a very fluid mission and is requiring a great deal of coordination and support. Please check this site regularly for updates and changes.
The size of the procession is being capped at the request of our state police escorts in Maryland and Virginia. The size of the procession is also being capped to address the concerns of the family. They are extremely supportive of the PGR and the safety and well being of each rider is paramount to them. As this is a Pennsylvania mission, PA vehicles will take precedence. If we reach our quota at Breezewood (see staging information above - staging area 1), there will be NO additional vehicles added to the procession throughout the ride. Should the quota not be met at Breezewood, additional vehicles will be allowed to join in Frederick, MD (staging area 2 - tba*) and this is the ONLY place where this will be allowed. Once we leave Frederick, NO additional vehicles will be allowed to join the procession. This is a requirement of our state police escort and we will adhere to it. There will be no additional stops until we reach ANC. Anyone wishing to join the procession must confirm space ahead of time. PA riders may contact Richard Getchel as previously noted below at rgetch@atlanticbb.net. The deadline to contact Richard is today 3/15/2007. Non-PA riders/participants may contact kevin rock at sjurock@hotmail.com. The deadline to contact kevin is Friday 3/16/2007. The FINAL list of vehicles will be provided to the state police (MD and VA) on Monday 3/19/2007. If you are in the procession, please note that loud pipes are discouraged at ANC. There are services continually going at ANC and we do not want to disrupt them in any way.
Because this is expected to be a very large turnout, we ask that experienced riders, those who have recently ridden in groups and are comfortable in a group riding situation, submit their request to ride in the procession.
For those riders and patriots who will not be riding in the procession, but still would like to show your respect for this fallen hero, you may go directly to Arlington (staging area 3 - tba*) and stand guard for the interment.
Again, a lot of coordination is going to be required for this mission and specific details may change at the last moment. Please check frequently for updates and on the day of the mission please follow the direction of your ride captains.
Due to the distance and expected speed of the procession large flags are discouraged. Flags are not required at ANC. (note: there is one flag at Arlington and it flies on the hill and is always at half-staff to honor our heros. the only other flags are those which cover our heros to their final resting place and those carried by the military honor guard.)
Once in the cemetery, please refrain from smoking or using cell phones. as there are several other services taking place, please show our respect for any hero who may be brought past and if you find yourself within hearing distance of taps being played at another service, please stand silently until the last note is played.
This young man (and all of our heros both fallen and serving in the military) have made us proud. Let's return the honor and stand with pride.
*tba - these staging locations/times/directions will be announced when finalized.

Everyone:
Couple of things concerning this Mission.
1. We all owe Richard and Kevin a great deal of thanks for working on putting this Mission together. Great job gentlemen and thank you.
2. For those WHO HAVE NOT SIGNED IN WITH RICHARD AS ESCORT FROM BREEZEWOOD, PA IT IS UNFORTUNATE BUT YOU WILL NO LONGER BE PERMITTED TO SIGN IN NOR PARTICIPATE IN THE ESCORT PORTION. You can meet us at ANC as per Kenvi's post. As stated in both Richard's and Kevin's posts we are limited to the number of vehicles allowed in the escort by the State Police and therefore, the cutoff for PA has been made as of now.
3. If you are attending and are a part of the escort, please read Richard's and Kevin's posts again. These two are the Patriot Guard Riders, Ride Captains for this Mission, timing, logistics and strict adherence to ANC rules must be complied with and what the two of them say goes.
4. Safety first. If the weather is bad or forecasted to be so please use your own good judgment as to whether you ride or cage. Safety first. If you are not comfortable riding in a close formation group at high speeds please cage it.
5. Again, no 3x5 flags, no cell phones, no smoking.
6. RIDE SAFE
Honor and Respect

Today I became a Patriot Guard Rider to honor my cousin by marriage SPC Ross A. McGinns. My heart goes out to his family and friends. Thanks goes out to all the riders who took part in this event. My wife Julie Bullard and her parents Ron and Judy Downs. Were very please with the turn out as well as the rest of the family and friends. I wish I could been there but I am getting ready to go overseas at this present time.
Lord Jesus help me as I mourn, comfort me with the knowledge of your love which is stronger than death. Enable me to trust you for the future of my love ones and myself. Help me to cast all of my care on you, knowing that the grave holds no power over those who trust in you. Amen. |

| Dear Mr & Mrs McGinnis,
Thank you for allowing me and the rest of the Patriot Guard riders to be with you today at Ross' funeral at ANC. Your kindness and personal graciousness to the riders at this time of your own terrible loss, show what kind of people you are. You raised you son to love people and to care for the safety of those entrusted to him. To that end he sacrificed his own life, so that others could have theirs. Yours is a wonderful family, and I am heartbroken that you have had to experience a loss such as this. You, and Ross are in my thoughts and prayers. |

| I would like to thank you for allowing me the honor of riding in the escort and of paying honor to a true American Hero, you as a family were most gracious to us and for you to come by and shake our hands and say thank you to us brought a lump to my throat and tears to my eyes. We are the one who should have come to you and say thank you , but we didn't want to intrude on your grief but you showed us where your son got his courage. We owe you a dept that can never be repaid and everyday I will remember this day as one in which the real cost of freedom was brought to the attention of the rest of the United States. May you always know that should you ever need us for any reason we will be there for you as your son was there for us. May God keep you in his hand and watch over and protect you all until we meet him and Ross in heaven. |

Final mission report for Spc. Ross A. McGinnis, 19, of Knox, Pennsylvania.
Spc. Ross McGinnis, you were a young man that went above and beyond the call of duty to your fellow soldiers, your unit and your nation. Long before you were nominated for the Congressional Medal of Honor, the qualities that befit such an honor were already in your heart. The outpouring of love and gratitude from your family, friends and community attest to this. Sometimes from the most ordinary people the most extraordinary things happen, and on December 4, 2006, you not only saved the lives of four soldiers but you affected the heart of a nation. You touched the lives of more people than you ever thought imaginable, and for this we shall be forever be in your debt.
To your family and friends who knew you long before we knew of you, thank you for taking such good care of Spc. McGinnis. Each of you represent a building block that made him the man that he became. Thank you for allowing us to take part in this memorial of his passing and this celebration of his life. It was an honor to stand with you and show our respect to your son.
The missions at ANC would never happen without the support of our patriot guard brothers and sisters from the service members’ home states. Thank you, Richard Getchel, and to all the members of the Patriot Guard in Pennsylvania. This would have never happened without your dedication and hard work. You were the first impressions and faces of the Patriot Guard. The bar was raised high and we hope we were able to meet your expectations at this, the final stage of the mission.
The procession on Friday from Knox to ANC was a success. With stops in Breezewood, Frederick, and the Marine Corps Memorial we had the assistance of the state police in Pennsylvania and Maryland which was outstanding. The assistance of ride captains, state captains and PGR members at every stage which was incredible. And the sky held back its tears as ours fell on hallowed ground. This day will not be forgotten by many. And this young man will always have the gratitude of a grateful nation.

To the McGinnis family; thank you for your sacrifice and thank you for your invitation to attend your son's Memorial on December 17 and for his internment on March 23 at Arlington National Cemetery. It was and shall always be an honor to have been invited and to have been able to participate with the Patriot Guard Riders.
Richard, our PGR RC from PA, thank you for an outstanding job. Kevin and the ANC PGR team, thank you. We could not have accomplished what we did on Friday without your help and your professionalism. Job well done by all the Captains, thank you again.
Patriot Guard Riders thank you, I joined the PGR to in some small way try to help the families and to honor the fallen Heroes. I continue to be re-energized in our Mission each time I am able to participate in a Mission by the PGR members both long term and brand new. Your dedication, your honor and your commitment to the cause are inspiring. I thank you all for attending this Mission. When I took the car keys back to PFC McGinnis' Dad he thanked me and told me that there is no way they could ever thank us enough, not only for Ross but for all those we have helped and will help in the future. I told him it was our honor and that his thanks were more than enough.
PFC McGinnis, rest in peace young man; your duty is done, your life was too short but your accomplishments shall forever be etched in history along with those of all the great American Heroes who have forged this country into the greatest nation on earth. We would not have the freedoms we have today were it not for men and women such as yourself. Thank You.

It was truly an honor to participate in Ross's final journey. The support of the citizens of Knox and his family was absolutely tremendous. Somehow, seeing all this love and support made the 'tears shed by the heavens' very warm. Almost on cue, the clouds parted and the sun shone as if God was saying "Welcome home, my son, your journey is now complete". Ross has now assumed his place among the hundreds of thousands of other Heroes that preceded him.
To all who took an active part in the planning and execution of this Mission, I offer a very sincere "Thank You" for a task well done. A Mission of this magnitude cannot be easy to co-ordinate and serves to prove, once again, that we have no borders within the PGR. To those charged with the responisiblity of carrying out these Missions @ ANC, you are to be commended for the very professional way you carry out your duties. Your's HAS to be one of the most daunting responsibilities any of us could have and one that most certainly could take its toll, if you allowed it to do so. I salute each and every one of you and thank you for allowing all of us to participate.
To Ross's family....your's has been a very long, time consuming journey. May you now, finally, receive a measure of comfort in knowing that he is at the right hand of God, watching over each and every one of you. I thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for allowing us to participate in his Final Journey.
God Speed Ross. You have been given a well-deserved Hero's send-off. Rest in peace. |

It was an honor to accompany PFC McGinnis as my first mission. I was also pleasantly surprised at the respect and courtesy given by drivers not in the procession. Most went out of their way to allow our passing, with several even slowing to block traffic for us.
Of course it was heartbreaking to see the family in their grief, as well as his fellow soldiers. I was especially touched to see the wounded soldier who was there.
Rest in peace Soldier; your job is done. |
