Okay, semi-final itinerary for Missouri (St Louis to Jefferson City)

We are waiting for approval for the permit at the Arch. Assuming we get those, we will meet there by 0830, handoff from IL is at 0900. We will hold there as needed till 1000 and depart for Jefferson City. There will be people looking to see us go by or join us, so we will keep to the 70W route. I would expect us to stop for fuel and rider relief at Kindgom City. We will then take 54S to Jefferson City and the Capitol Building. Highway Patrol escort will be with us for part of the ride. Please have your tank full and ready to go at when you arrive at the Arch and watch here for updates and the final itinerary. (Not expecting changes other than possibly the Arch). Anyone looking to join us enroute to JC, I can call you as needed to let you know when we are getting close. Please email me with your name, phone number, and where you would like us to call from. ie, when we pass through Warrenton). Sorry for getting this out so late and thanks to all who will be there. I know that you will be proud to be part of this.

INDIANA mission itinerary:

We will stage at TWO points.

West Side:
10th & Lynhurst at the convenience store, 465, 10th St exit, 1 mile) at 5:00-5:30, stands up ~5:45.

East Side:  I-70 and Shadeland near the intersection of 21st ST, in the large parking lot behind the Circle K.  Turn in off Shadeland at the McDonalds, right into the Parking lot.  Go all the way over to the Circle K.  Lobo is Assistant Captain and will handle the east stage area. 6:00.  Briefing then stands up at 6:30.

We will receive the Pentagon Memorial Stone fromn the Ohio PGR at 0800 at the state line, just north of the I-70 and US 40 interchange, at the big truck stop. The stone will be transported in Firechief's truck.    PLEASE be ther NLT After a brief ceremony and the exchange, hopefully our Ohio family will join us in breakfast.

Stands up 9:15-9:30 for Indy under State Police escort.  We are planning a BRIEF stop, again at the lot at Shadeland St Exit (described above) to pick up the riders who are only doing the PM leg.  PLEASE be there NLT 10:00 as I;m not sure of our arrival time. I will ask Kyra (DesertRose) to head up the 10:00 AM stage at I-70 Shadeland. We want to plan our arrival at the Government Center as close to 11:00 as we can.  The intent of a 2nd stage area is to minimise the bike traffic in and out of the Govt Center so if you are only running the morning leg, please stay with the group at the Capital until we pull out, then peel off.

At the Government Center There are strick guidelines we are to follow as to parking of the bikes, I will brief you on those at staging.  The military will provide sentries and there will be a specific protocol for the stone/truck and several PGR upon arrival.

We have extended invitations to several dignitaries, inviting them to join us while in Indianapolis.  We're hoping their schedules permit them the opportunity to visit with us and the Memorial Stone for a few minutes but we realize that some things cannot be narrowed down on such short notice.  Their schedules are usually set weeks in advcance.  Regardless, we should be able to off the people of Indianapolis this once in a lifetime oppportunity to re-visit a most important moment in our lives.  If even one person has this opportunity, the mission is a success.

Stands up 12:30-12:45 (State Police call depending on route) with a fuel stop at the Plainfield exit.  Note: it's 168 miles between transfer points, some don't have the range) plus I'm not sure how the ISP will route us because of road work.  Scheduled transfer to Illinois PGR is around 3:00 INDIANA time (2:00 in Illinois) at I-70 and US 40, IL exit 154.  I told them we may be early so they will be ready for us.  Times may be a little fluid, ISP will have the word.

Mission notes: There is always a possibility of media coverage and you may just be on the news so shine up your scoots and proudly display your PGR ID.  There will be a LOT of pictures because the folks in Dodge City want a pictoral record of the trip, the transfers and the riders.  We will also post them on the IN photo gallery.

I can't overstress the significance of this mission. For that reason we must exhibit a respectful decorum around the stone at all times.  More at mission briefing.  This will be a mission to remember. I am humbled and honored to be appointed Ride Captain.
Bless all of you.

Sgt Rock said that!

Arrived back home around 1230 from making our transfer to Ohio.

Butch...I hope you had a safe journey to Marysville and am very sorry we were unable to escort you on this historic mission.  May the Good Lord watch over you on your journey to Indiana tomorrow.

Although not the RC on this mission, I still feel the need to  inject my feelings on today's leg.  First, Ron, you did an EXCELLENT job setting this up; Thank You!

The site I saw when entering the West Virginia Welcome Center this morning was nothing short of awesome.  A color guard of veterans from the West Alexander, PA VFW had formed beside the truck holding this piece of history.  There were, I believe, 12 American Heros from past conflicts standing with flags and arms to pay silent tribute to what was happening.  A perfectly wonderful thing to behold!  Thanks Ron for arranging for them to be there today.  It is because of those gentlemen, and millions of others like them, that we were able to wake up this morning knowing we were completely free to ride this mission.  THANK YOU GENTLEMEN!!!!

A special "Thank You" to the WV State Trooper who provided escort for us into Ohio.  It is unfortunate his brothers and sisters in Ohio found it necessary to "charge" us to provide an escort, something Ron, thankfully, declined to accept.

It was a beautiful day for a ride, for ANY reason, but even more so given the magnitude of what we were doing.

I'd like to personally thank all who participated in this mission.  Rick and Nikki....I hope you found that all was well when you returned home.  My thoughts and prayers are with you and your daughter.  Please keep me posted on this.  Mike...thank you for bringing Dillon along with you.  My heart aches for him and his siblings at this most terrible time in their lives.  Keep you head up and your heart strong Dillon.  Remember, always, your Dad loves you VERY, VERY much.  If there's anything we can do, don't hesitate to get in touch.  To every other participant (and I'm sorry for not remembering names), thank you from the bottom of my heart.  Know that you are all a big part of something very historic.

I arrived home last night about 11:45, was up way too early to go to work and I am still collecting my thoughts about this historic event.

As I cruised south yesterday morning to Shanksville, my mind raced as to what the day would unfold for me. When I pulled into the parking lot, I was greeted by PA RC Joe Z. He is a gracious and humble man, he made me feel very welcome, as this was my first mission, even though he was in a meeting.

So I made my way through the memorial, and took pic's as I went and then found myself sitting on a bench looking out over the crash site, an eerie feeling came over me, the memories of 9-11 overcame me; the emptiness, the disbelief and how angry I was, I just sat there - numb. Then the presence of life at the memorial slowly pulled me back into reality...we must never forget, along with those who gave there all but how we all felt that day...

I then made my way back through the crowd and signed my name to the guest book. Then to the parking lot, where I met some of the most wonderful people, my fellow PGR. Then we heard the rumble and in comes a streak of Red, White and Blue...it was an impressive sight. After the ceremony and the blessing we changed transport vehicles and I was able to meet & talk with PGR from VA/MD/DC, another great group of people.

Then it was time to ride...we went west to carry on this mission to the next exchange and our eastern brothers and sisters headed home. It was a beautiful day and our ride went rather smoothly. We crossed the stateline and I had the honor of meeting the PGR from WV....another awesome group of people.

I'm sure I can speak for everyone who is involved in this mission, this is a very moving & humbling experience, one, none of us will ever forget.

Thank you all for your dedication,
Joan

P.S. We discussed yesterday, at our refueling point, whether or not there would be a Patch created for this historic mission?!

Yes, Joan, I agree wholeheartedly with you.  There should, indeed, be a special patch created for this VERY Special Mission.  It would take someone with more knowledge and expertise than I'd ever hope to have but I'm sure there's somebody out there that could do prrecisely that.

Any volunteers?  C'mon people.....get imaginative here!

And yes on the photos.  I did this quickly today to get them posted.  There is a stop button at the bottom and you can right-click to pull what you want.

I'm already developing an online photo archive with stills.  Just need the additional space on my web server opened up and I'll post.  Should be tomorrow.

Thank you all PGR for continuing this mission so successfully.  I'm watching this thread constantly.  Also, I am flying to Dodge City for the September 11, 2006 memorial unveiling.  I just have to.....

Just my suggestion: Why not see if there is already some sort of emblem/logo for the actual site in KS? That would be a fitting center for the patch with maybe the state outlines of the route?

That's a great idea.  I'm going to print out all the posts concerning this patch from now until the mission is fully complete to have everyone's input.  I hope Joan (and other graphic designers if you're out there) will work with me.  We can develop several to choose from and vote on it?  I don't want to make it complicated, but every voice, like in this fine country should be heard.

Keep sending ideas, but for now, let's focus on the mission at hand.  We still have PGR on the road and we need to keep them in the forefront.  I will catalogue all of the ideas that come in.  As they do, I'll do rough drafts and keep them for review later.

What do ya think?

ultraclassic, home safe and sound thank you brother.

To my family I met this morning: You're a class act folks and
I'm proud to be considered one of you.

On my drive back to Marysville I had a lot of time to reflect. As
most of us did on the morning of September 11th I sat in front
of my TV and watched. Today I kept looking out my back window
at my precious cargo riding in my truck. Every time I looked I was
more and more humbled to be able to be a part of this mission.

God bless our country and all who have served.
