The Slammer is the old Mercer CO Jail, so it would be a unique experience to stay in. There are also several small places to eat, and a HARDEE's and McDonalds. I've only been there when it was a jail-haha.

Just another note to any PGR'es who need lodging in the Galesburg area. Our home is available for 3 or 4. We have cats and a dog. Fridge is usually bare and the cook is always on strike. The beds are clean, though, and free. Call 309-343-4215.

I just wanted to thank you for all that you are doing.  My husband is in Iraq with this Seabee Unit and it means so much to them that the PGR will be attending the services for Jerrry Tharp.

When they lost two members prior to this, the first question they asked was if the PGR would be there..  it gave them security in knowing that their solider was being cared for.  After the services the unit was sent photos of the PGR and it brought them comfort to see the support.

Please know that your work is very much appreciated by the families and those still serving.

For those of you running the escort tonight, God Speed and God Bless.

In every war, certain communities are called upon to offer their sons and daughters to fight for America's honor.

In every war, certain communities have been called upon to provde The Heroes.

We don't know why these communities are called upon, but we thank God when they respond.

Galesburg has responded, offered up their best, and their best have stepped forward to defend this great nation.

We honor them and will never forget the great sacrifice of individuals, families, and communities that provided the Heroes of our generation.

Our children and their children, and all who follow, will remember the selfless sacrifice of our fallen in this conflict, and will remember that it was through that sacrifice that we all live free.

God Bless the family and friends of PO1 Jerry A. Tharp . . . and God Bless Galesburg, Illinois.

Respectfully,

John

Home safe & sound at 02:30hrs from the Escort Mission. Still a bit choked up from the incredible turnout of support. Not only from the PGR, (35 bikes were counted at Princeton, plus those who continued on from O'Hare) but the communities of Milan, Oak Grove, Preemption, Viola and especially Aledo. Wonderful people. Thank you for allowing us to escort Jerry home.

Good to hear that the first part of the mission was without incident, hwy speeds at night still scare me.
Car_do4 and myself will be making the trip on saturday for the last leg of this mission. We will be leaving
the NE Missouri area going up through Quincy Il. if anyone wants to hook up...email me. We'd be there
for friday night, but "jobs" get in the way. (should be about a 4 hr trip up/over for us)

Home at 05:30 hrs and would do it again.  The turn out on the square was great.  New faces and new friends and no complaints of the delays.  The job needed to be done and the PGR did it.  Thanks to all on the first and second leg of the escort.  Going to have to re-engineer my flag pole---doesn't like 80 mph!!  Joe from Colfax--did you make it home safe?  See all on Saturday.

Made it back to Elgin at about 0300...tired, a bit cold around the edges but with a warm glow deep inside.  On the dark stretches of interstate on the way home, I couldn't help but think back to the dark days after Nam and the way we were treated when we returned.

These missions, although incredibly sad are, for some of us, incredibly healing.  The memory from this mission that will stick with me was the sight of a group of total strangers, standing quietly with flags on a darkened overpass above I-80, at 12:30 AM, after a three hour wait, just to say thank you to this fallen soldier.  It was more inspiring than a ticker tape parade down Main street.

I have gained far more from these missions than I could possibly give.

NEVER AGAIN...

I honestly don't know how to express my feelings/thoughts about last night. I got to meet and talk to Illinois Cowboy and Greendragon71. A freind of mine here in Aledo also joined last night.
As I stood on the edge of central park with the luminaries at my feet waiting for the motorcade to come. We got a report that they were on the Boden Hill heading to Viola so depending upon their speed it should be another 15-20 minutes before getting to Aledo. We stood their for the most part silently. Then like Radar O'Reilly on mash you could faintly hear the bikes. People stood quitely on the curb, flags and candles in hand. We all knew that Jerry was finally home.

To those who rode thru the darkness to bring a stranger home..... God Bless you and your families.

Made it back to Des Plaines at 4:30am, words cannot express what an honor it was to make the escort from Chicago to Aledo. Driving in my truck in at the tail end of the escort, there were many times after Princeton that I could not even see the Lead LEO that's how long the escort was. Last night was my first escort mission and I can say that I will never forget it. Thank you Seabee Tharp for serving our country proud.
I Salute You.

My sincere sympathy to the Jerry Tharp family. I'll be attending.

I have a nephew who will return to the same area in Iraq where Jerry was killed. His job is searching for IED's from a HumVee. God grant him a safe return next year. He is home now on leave but returns this weekend.

I will be leaving from Dubuque, IA. on Saturday morning. I emailed the info to our H.O.G group and there is interest of a group ride for Jerry.

I attended the services for Jaime Jaenke in Iowa Falls. It changed me. I'm glad I went and this is a wonderful organization.

I stopped to get my PGR patch sewed on my vest. Usual wait is a week. When I explained what it was for, she said she had heard of the group and it was a wonderful thing we did.
She sewed my patch on immediately and wouldn't take any payment. Said it was her small thing she could do.
I got a lump in my throat and couldn't even say thank you easily. We both nodded heads in acknowledgement. It really gets to the heart of everybody.

See you on Saturday, hopefully with a group from the Dubuque area. Anyone that wants to come along my email is dbqshark@msn.com
